LUBBOCK, Texas -- Here's the kicker for No. 8 Texas Tech.
A student who made a 30-yard field goal to win a contest during a game last month could handle extra points and field goals Saturday against No. 19 Kansas for the national championship-contending Red Raiders.
Coach Mike Leach said Matt Williams will travel with the team, though he hasn't decided whether Williams will play.
Leach is contemplating such a drastic move because his two kickers -- freshman Donnie Carona and senior Cory Fowler -- have missed six extra points and half of their eight field-goal attempts.
"We didn't anticipate having to go that direction," Leach said of using Williams this year. "I've already seen him kick a 30-yard field goal in front of 55,000 people."
Williams, who played high school football at Weatherford is competing with Carona, the starter for the first six games, for the kicking jobs.
