It isn't Cabot Cove that is dangerous, it is simply one of the residents. If Jessica Fletcher left the town the murders followed her and Cabot Cove became quiet and peaceful. Why the residents don't gather up their pitchforks and run Jessica out of the town is beyond me.

And don't forget - you can't have romantic relationships with fellow agents, nor can you have any kind of life outside work, and if you give a lifetime of adulthood to the agency, you're rewarded with the total loss of all those memories.
