Ferenginar

As much as the idea of a female Ferengi in clothes is horrifying, just think how much worse it might be if they were also able to sew and consequently could make their own clothes!!!

So Amazon, Ferenginar Chapter, sees that a female has ordered a few yards of flowered cloth and a women's fashions catalog... and doesn't wonder what she plans on doing with it?

Fabric can serve purposes other than clothing, and perhaps the Ferengi aren't as hung up on the concept of specific male versus female fashions.

As for a catalog...if Ishka's a good enough seamstress, she could just try to make clothes based on what she found online without a pattern/catalog.

Or perhaps the Ferengi aren't as Big Brother as you're making them sound here, or Ishka bribed people to look in the other direction.

Nothing about the whole "Ferengi females" thing makes sense.
* Quark/Lumba's argument about females as consumers should have ensured that they were able to do business centuries ago. Why would any sane Ferengi ignore billions of potential customers?
* If females cannot learn to read or do business, how can they teach their sons to do so?
* If females aren't allowed to learn the Rules of Acquisition, why are they quoted so openly?
* If females can't do business, what point would Quark's stipend to Ishka serve?
* Would one businessman out of hundreds really be enough to stop Brunt's coup?
* If Ferengi females are truly as capable of doing business as males, why did Quark have to masquerade as one?
* If all it took to take females all the way from chattel to full equals was one woman banging the Grand Nagus, how is it that it never happened before?
* Consider that it took American women 140 years just to get the vote, should we believe that Ferengi women made ten times the progress in under seven? Riker reminded us earlier that equality comes through evolution.
* And wouldn't a change of that nature create so much chaos that it would destabilize the entire alliance, which is not a small area? There's no evidence of this happening.

Do you believe the Dabo Girls were trained on Ferenginar prior their arrival on DS9 ?
What were the criteria for hiring at Quark's bar?

I believe there were two criteria Quark took in consideration before hiring a new Dabo girl.

And no, they were trained by quark and his staff, as evidenced by the Dabo girl that goes to sisko when she discovers that accepting sexual advances by her boss is part of her contract.

Quark always had a weakness for beautiful women.... they all seem to love him as long as he's counting them those latinum bars.
In yesterdays episode.... he got this sweet kiss from this mesmerizing attractive Cardassian woman :)
Some can find him really attractive.
I liked the episode when Sakonna (the Vulcan Maquis) was talking with him .... wanted to buy those photon torpedoes from Quark..... he was hitting on her .... invited her somewhere, she remained calm didn't reject him and said : perhaps next time...... giving him that "fake hope" just to keep him hoping, although she wouldn't have gone anywhere with him.

I wonder if Natima came back to Quark once Cardassia was liberated like she said she would.

The answer to those questions is, Ferengi men know full well that if educated women can be just as good at business. They just don’t want to give up their control. Just like human men.

If we would make a comparison between Natima and Sakonna (the Vulcan), I'd say Natima really had feelings for Quark, while Sakona was just following her own interest - to buy the photon torpedoes.
Watching the "Natima" episode I was wondering where have I seen Natima before.... just searched into this and now I remember.
Mary Crosby (Natima) was Sue Ellen Ewing's sister in the Dallas soap opera ...... :)
I think I've seen this ages ago .... :)

I really don't watch soap opera, at least not anymore..... but I enjoyed Dallas at the time ....:rommie:

Is she even still alive? Remember, over 800 million Cardassians aren't. And, as a dissident, she might have been captured and executed earlier.

Their computers come with sentient holograms...

There are some sentient AI (EMH, Vic, Moriarty, The Countess, Pup), but those programs are distinct from the normal operating system of the ship.

I think she was in the novels, but Quark was into Ro by then.

Just a thought... if there's absolutely no such thing as female clothing of any sort on Ferenginar... where did Ishka get a dress?

Replicator?

Yeah, but...

ISHKA: "Computer, replicate a dress with flowers on it."
REPLICATOR: "Please define 'dress'."
ISHKA: "An article of clothing worn by females."
REPLICATOR: "There are no files for female clothing in the Ferenginar database."
ISHKA: "..."

I happened to just watch that episode. When she leaves she says she'll come back once Cardassia is a democracy.
Yes I remember her saying that.... I'm rewatching the episodes as we speak, but I just finished second season.... so I have to see what happens next because I don't remember quite everything.

the EHM is literally installed by default, all you need to do for it to become sentient is letting him run long enough.

The others were created on normal systems and with safety parameters on, there are probably plenty more around.

Basically, these arguments taken together provide their own answer. The Ferengi are masters of adapting (and of burning their bridges, which may be pretty much the same thing): therefore, it poses them no problem at all to suddenly flip their attitudes for profit, back and forth if necessary, and to never dwell on the change.

Women could have been business leaders or customers twenty years prior to DS9, until somebody realized there'd be money in making them chattel and pretending this had always been so. Literacy and education could be redefined annually for maximum profit, too: private tutoring this year, collapsing of said market the next when somebody introduces an app or a pill for it, then collapsing of that market due to saturation and a return to elite schooling or highly competitive regional systems or whatnot.

For all we know, female subjugation was a scam devised by some clever woman who got to run the whole Alliance from behind the curtains. And curtailing of literacy would help a lot in hiding history from the scammed...

I think one of the points of the episode that introduces Ishka is that she's shrewd. As such, I'm pretty sure if she wants clothes, she'll figure out a way to get them.
