Fencing in "We'll Always Have Paris"

But he did though? He's specifically said that it was not to do with his back. He's asked about it on a LDS commentary, which is where I got the 'hot dog' reference from.

Fair. What I read was a couple of years old.

Still, it is nice to have a myth busted. There are waaaay too many surrounding this franchise.

Probably because there was a glimmer of truth to it. I assume that Jonathan Frakes was indeed injured at some point, even if the injury did not actually cause his habit of mounting chairs.

I always assumed they made him do that and some of his other more unusual poses so that he'd fit in the frame with some of the shorter actors in the cast.

One episode later Ward Costello's Admiral Quinn is throwing him around a crew quarters and smashing him into a table. Although if you want to keep the rumour alive, perhaps that's how he threw out his back, as the episodes weren't necessarily shot in sequence!

Actually "Conspiracy" was produced directly after "We'll Always Have Paris".

And if you look closely, you can tell in several quick shots that it wasn't Frakes who was getting beat down by creature feature Admiral Quinn.

Ah, I couldn't get the production dates to check - thanks for confirming this!

I rather suspected it was a stunt double, but I didn't want to ruin my own joke. ;)

I dated a girl in high school who was on the fencing team (and tennis team, and softball, and...). Kept in touch after school and she went on to win many fencing awards. Never fulfilled her Olympic dreams, alas, but followed another dream and became a science teacher. Really had it bad for her, but she was just wildly sportif, and I was a Trek nerd and art major who couldn't even catch a baseball. Sigh.
Yeah, sorry, nothing to do with the thread, it just made me wax nostalgic.

I once took up fencing because of girl; it didn't last.

I did in high school. Lettered two years in a row and even won a couple matches in tournaments... but didn't make it to finals. Meh. Still, 'twas fun... Cor, those were the days...
