Quilted Camouflage.
My cat has a habit of randomly pooping on top of the top entry litter box lid without any reason (he didn't do it yesterday, he did it today, he won't do it tomorrow) so I opened the front entry of the litter box. He kicks so much litter out of the box. Any ideas what to do?

Genetics. The cats with a strong drive to hide in dens, caves , trees etc. survived and passed down their genes. Cats without good hiding drives often didn't survive to pass down that hiding tendency.
