There was an empty cardboard box that was open and sitting on the floor. So my cat peed in it.

The bathroom smelled like the cat had peed outside the litter box but there was nothing. I couldn't find any puddles anywhere. Turns out a towel had fallen on the ground, he peed on it and it dried up before I had put it back on the counter. That was what smelled.
