Sorry to hear about that. Almost makes one want to have a pet turtle or parrot or Pet Rock, anything that can outlive us. We're on our third set of cats in 37 years of marriage, and I just realized they're already six years old.

Then you should be worrying about who's going to take care of the pet, except the pet rock, after you're gone. Some pet rocks you can safely return to the wild, others can only survive in captivity.

My wife had two bunnies when we got married twelve years ago. They're gone as well as two others plus my cat who I had for about seventeen years.
