So, we've had a cat now for six months. I'm beginning to suspect she is wholly uninterested in doing what I want her to do.
Generally true. Though, you should check to see if you have a cat that fetches. I've had two male cats recently. Both of them did.
She does! She likes her mom’s hair ties. She will bring one to me to slide across to floor so she can chase it. Sometimes this will go on for 20-30 minutes. It’s hilarious. I had no idea cats would play fetch.
Excellent! It was news to me, too. Charlie never brought it all the way to me. Sterling does, though. So cute to se the kitten thrum-thrum-thrum after a toy mouse.
My cat Charlie would play fetch with elastic hair bands. There was a chair right next to the hallway and the only time she sat on it was when she wanted to play fetch. I'd be walking down the hall and see her head peeking around the corner. I'd shoot a hair band like a rubber band and she'd be off. I miss her.
She'll bring it all the way to me. If I don't throw it again fast enough, she'll claw at my feet until I respond.
My mom's cat would jump in the air to catch wadded up paper we threw. I think she was a shortstop in a past life.
It sounds like you're having fun with Wednesday. To the indifference thing. My son asked me Friday which cat was my "favorite." I told him it doesn't matter. The cat chooses the human. We're their "staff." That makes them seem indifferent to anyone else. It is very different than having a dog. Dogs are saying to us, "Hello! I've never met you. I love you!"
I sure am. She’s the first cat I’ve ever had, so I don’t have any real frame of reference, but she’s hilarious. We got her when she was six weeks old, so we are truly her parents. When she’s in the mood, she’ll climb up on our laps and nap. That purring/vibrating thing is great. Now that she’s a little older she’s more independent. It’s been really fun having her around.
