Next time, before posting the Missing Cat notices, look behind the couch and under the bed.

yes ago my sister thought one of her cats (who was 100% indoor) had somehow gotten out and lost. She and her now-ex husband turned the house upside down looking for him.

Reached the point where there was no sign of him and my sister was very upset when they heard a sound from under one of the recliners and low and behold there was the missing moggy.

Rigel did NOT look happy!

(Who could blame him?)

As elder statesman, he usually keeps to himself most of the day and has a very mild temperament and while the girl kitty and him occasionally lay around together, he has been foes with Altair since day one. I think it's an Alpha same-gender thing. But he is sweet to people (though he hides if strangers come in) and doesn't really seem to mind what you put on him, even if it's a deadly Xenomorph.

The other two are attached at the hip and wherever Mira goes, Altair follows and while we're somewhat surprised how close they've become, but I guess it shouldn't be that odd considering for all her feisty "Tortitude", she's a big lovebug and likes everyone she meets...cat and human alike.

Agreed! And I love the astronomically-themed names!

Although I've lived with cats since I was born, it was only when I moved out on my own did I let my science geek flag fly and go with less ordinary or non-human names for the cats we adopted. So far, we've had an Orion, an Oberon, as well as a hamster, Titania...both being moons of Uranus.

But it was the kitten we found one day in the middle of the street whose name seemed the most apt. She was barely a month old and far from her mother. She was so tiny and helpless, we had to bottle-feed her in the beginning. I decided to name her Phoebe, after one of the smallest and remotest satellites of Saturn. She grew up to be a "one-human cat" and I was the chosen human; she barely gave anyone else in the house the time of day and was the only cat who would loyally sit next to my computer almost every time she saw me on it. Unfortunately, after 14 wonderful years we lost her at the beginning of 2020, exactly one week before Covid and the lockdowns. Even to this day I've not gotten completely over it (sometimes you never do) and it still hurts thinking about it. So is the eventual price we pay for letting them into our lives.

The only two exceptions to unique nomenclature were the one we inherited from a family member and thought it bad luck to change a cat's name and another who was considered one of our kid's when he was young, so he got to name him.

Now, I'm going to go enjoy my current trio who are simply "stellar". Thanks...I'll be here all week.
