Feelings on the removal of the EU?

Are your thoughts on TFA effected by the removal of the EU?

  • Yes, I'm not seeing the film because I consider the Thrown trilogy to be episodes VII, VIII, and IX

I did read the first book and didn't care for it. I like Star Wars for Jedi vs Sith action, not hard military stuff. I do intend to power through the series one day though.

I like a little bit of military sci-fi and as i said, really enjoyed the first four books, but what I read of the fifth just didn't do it for me. The story seemed to cover a lot of the same ground and none of the characters seemed as compelling or even all that memorable.

I don't give two shits about the "removal" of the EU. It's all still readily available via Amazon, eBay, used book stores, regular bookstores, etc. Which is nothing to say of the stuff you (the general you) already have. Just like with the Prime universe on Star Trek and your guns in America, nobody's coming to snatch these things out of your hands.

If The Force Awakens (and succeeding films) turn out to be fun, decent, adventures, so much the better.

Me neither. Like others have said, it started to become too bloated. The NJO for example was at least twice as long as it needed to be. I'm also looking forward to the new stuff.

Now, if we could just get Pocket Books to hit the reset button on their 24th century Star Trek line which has ALSO become a bloated mess I'd be one happy guy.

Emotionally investing in the EU was always a calculated risk. There was always a slim chance (which I never thought would actually happen) that a third trilogy would be made that would wipe it all out.
But, Lucas actually sold the whole show and now we have that continuation. I suppose there are a few sore folks out there who shelled out lots of $$ over the years for what is essentially now an alternate universe. (which is REALLY ironic when you note who's making the first new film)

Yeah, I was really really into the EU up until The new Jedi order started. I'm not interested in the new EU at this point, but I have many fond memories of those books from the 90s. Except Barbara Hamley's books and the Crystal Star.

Personally I got more into the EU the further it got along. LOTF and FOTJ were the high point for me. I loved how it was like a massive tv show telling one massive story with characters I had grown up with since I was a kid.

VERY happy.

I liked the original Zahn trilogy but it was pretty much crap after that.

I got sick of hearing about Anakin Solos and Anakin Skywalkers and Jason and Jayna (weren't they the Wonder Twins?) and various other made up lame children of children of the big three.

SO glad ACTUAL canon continuations of the films are being made!

No, it just seems unlikely. I'm glad Daala is a part of the new EU, but I wouldn't expect Disney to use many other characters exclusive to the old EU.

Ah ok, I thought you may have known something that we didn't given the way the Rebels is cheery picking stuff from the old books.

You are aware, from a certain point of view, it's all made up so complaining about Jacen and Janna (who I liked) being lame and made up makes fuck all sense.
