I found some of my old art for some Federation defense stations of the sort I imagine would be around Earth or a wealthy colony.
I based the phaser cannon on the Galaxy-X, with the idea that phaser towers like that might be on planetary surfaces. The smallest station would be in geosynchronous orbit over a colony, and if they can't afford that then they would make due with a small fighter, or modified shuttle. Worst case, they get a shielded shelter.
I even modeled it, though never textured it. You can also see a top view I can't find. I even modeled a Type 15 shuttlepod to go in the shuttlebay.
Gotta have a size comparison.
I think the stumpy big one, not to be confused with the midget station, isn't big enough, and the big big one is just the right size for housing a fusion reactor. I'm going by the reference I made below.
I scaled the weapons to each other, turret to turret, pop-out phaser to, well you know. It would obviously be smaller if I scaled to the reactor. And, yeah, I believe this was the original intended size of the Cardassian defense station. The canon size is far smaller, less than half and probably smaller.
