Federation and Empire (2010 edition)

Hello.

It's been a while since the last update (ten years, in fact) but Federation and Empire has been re-done and is set for a re-release, with a new 2010 edition.

For those of you who are not familiar with the game, F&E is the strategic-level game set in the same Star Fleet Universe as the likes of SFB and Federation Commander. Rather than just a ship or squadron, you control the forces (and just as importantly, the economies) of an entire empire (or alliance of empires, if you're feeling somewhat more ambitious!).

Each turn covers six months' worth of campaigning - in which you earn economic points based on planets and provinces held (and gained and lost) spend points to build new ships and bases (or repair ones already damaged in combat) and go fight to see if you can't improve the fortunes of your given side.

The game comes with a bunch of counters for the Coalition (Klingons, Romulans, Lyrans) and Alliance (Federation, Gorns, Kzintis, Hydrans, Tholians) as well as other units needed to get the game up and running.

To play on, there's a two-piece map which covers the local area of space (the Alpha Octant, on this side of the SFU take on the Milky Way) - though they sell larger scale one-piece maps separately too.

Are there any old F&E gamers here who might like the look of the new edition - or those who haven't tried it before, but like the idea of running your own empire anyway?

(Personally, what I'm really looking out for is the long-awaited ISC expansion, but first things first...)

Yep.

The main box set comes with the rulebook, a two-piece map, counters to represent your ships and other units, and so forth.

It has been decades since I played F&E. The last time I think I played the Gorns.
