February Challenge: Truth and Consequences--Choose Your Fate!

Nerys Ghemor

Vice Admiral

One of the things I love the most about DS9 is that every action has clear and observable consequences that the crew is not free to just fly away from.

So here's your challenge...let's explore how decisions matter!

Your job is to write a Choose Your Own Adventure story, in which your character is presented with a choice. They must have at least two options available to them--more if you can fit that into the word count. How you allocate your story--the scenario versus the choices--is up to you...just make it convincing! Your choices can be of any magnitude you like...world-sweeping, personal only...it's your call--just tell a good story. :)

To set up your Choose Your Own Adventure, your scenario should be typed in like normal. Your options should be placed under spoiler buttons, like so...

A new car!
ZONK!

The code for this is (without the spaces):

[ SPOILER="Door #1" ] Consequences [/ SPOILER]

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Because of the nature of the challenge, I'm kicking the available word count up to 6000. All series, all characters, all universes are OK.

This challenge closes 11 PM Central Standard Time (NOT CET ;) ) the evening of 28 Feburary.

Good luck!

You are trying to lure me away from MW2, aren't you? :)
Hmm, this strikes me with Shakespearean tones...to be or not to be, yada, yada, yada.

Eep... two possible endings to write, and a short month? Lucky I'm unemployed!

Thanks for your entry--you definitely got the code right.

There are lots of different ways to do this and fit the challenge, guys...can't wait to see what all everybody comes up with! :)

I might enter this one, it depends on whether I get my original fiction quota sorted this month.

wow, some of these will either be really simple and straight forward, or incredibly complex... Well it's about time I started writing again, I'll see what I can do.

As I said, there are many, many ways to address the challenge. :) I look forward to any and all who enter!

Sounds fun, lets see if you can put in multiple options throughout:

Ooh, two doors now.
Ooh, this room looks interesting, just like the last one but with TWO doors! . . . oh wait.
Nothing Here. . . Lame.
YOUR DEATH!
Ooh, kind of a evil lair thing going on in here, very retro.
Smells like parsnips.
Huh, ain't seen shag carpet in years.

Edit: You can. HUZZAH! VICTORY!

Nerys,

Can you nest Spoilers inside Spoilers?

Yes you can. Look at post number 12 in this thread, Venardhi was kind enough to give an example

I'm nearly done with mine (I think) but I keep thinking of more divergences, and since I have words left to spare...

My problem is I really DON'T have words to spare. With only one branch the story comes to 4500 words. If I branched each again, I'd need at least another 2000.

Can I count text that appears in multiple branches as if I only wrote it once?
