February Challenge: Gerry Anderson's Star Trek!

Ptrope

Agitator
Admiral
Thunderfleet is GO!!

We got a couple hints of Fanderson in last month's challenge, but this time, it's the whole nine yards! This time, the Great Thunderbird of the Galaxy is none other than Gerry Anderson, who in an alternate universe created shows like Supercar, Joe 90, UFO and Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. What would Gerry Anderson's Star Trek look like? Would it be peopled with puppets? Would Uhura have a purple wig? Would Starfleet's mission be hunting down aliens who preyed on unsuspecting Federation worlds in search of organs (Hammond, or hearts and lungs)?

Just imagine it! In fact, that is your mission: imagine what Gerry Anderson might have done if he, and not Gene Roddenberry, had created the same characters and the same overall concept, but with his own unique style and methods. The main restriction here: no Photoshopping - either of Trek images or of any Anderson-related properties. Gerry made shows from scratch, right down to his actors, and you've got to make your entries from scratch, too. So whether it's Sylvia-inspired outfits, or massive, overcomplicated vehicles, or Spock-on-strings, create something that makes your viewers say, "Wow! That looks like something from Gerry Anderson!"

This month, we're gonna party like it's Space:1999!

--------

As with every monthly challenge, entries are due by midnight on the last day of the month; send your entry (one final image) to ptrope at gmail dot com (don't count on the moderator to look thorugh the threads for what you want to submit to the final poll, because he's really lazy that way! :bolian: ). The winner of the challenge will then set the challenge to his or her fellow members for next month. Good luck!

hmm i'll have to research these to see if i can make a vessel based on these shows... :)

BTW, just to clarify - by no photoshopping you mean no horrible photomanip's featuring A list celebs in Trek Uniforms etc?

I can use photoshop to say crop/color correct add text to a picture etc? Just no take pic A and combine with pic B from Google stuff?

You can use Photoshop (or the equivalent) to create an image from scratch or to postwork an image you create from scratch - just not to do stuff like combine, say, an Interceptor in a shot of the hangar deck, or to change Kirk's uniform to white with a "SHADO" badge or to put Lt. Ellis's head on a shot of Uhura - the idea is to create, not to manipulate photos. Context matters - you can use elements of photos or screen caps to create an entirely new composition - I wouldn't ask everyone to draw or paint Kirk and Spock if they were making a movie poster or a book cover, for instance, but if it's just pasting a piece into an existing image and calling it 'done,' no. It has to have thought and effort put into it - it has to be a challenge. We've been getting plenty of entries that prove people are up to this ;).

Of course, when I say Crop/Color correct/add text I mean doing all those to an image I rendered out myself in Cinema 4D, not something poached off google.

...so uh. Can we send you stuff to check for whether it gets your approval and possibly re-submit thereafter?

Just make a thread, as usual - I'm sure the "no 'shopping" restriction is probably sufficiently clear by now. If I see anything that leans too far (that is to say, not far enough ;) ), I'll say something :bolian: .

This will be a good reason to use my TOS Interceptor... methinks it needs a target! :D
