7 billion?

You know, it could just be America?

Maybe Europe crawled it's way out of the shitter since we last caught up with them?

I think it's been said by the show-runners the world is impacted, if it was just the US then why haven't we been conquered by surviving powers?

In the episode at the CDC, Jenner says that the disease abruptly went global. But apparently this happened more than four months after "wildfire" was declared. I'm guessing that's been declared already. It would be interesting to know the timeline.

^I'm not sure wildfire has been declared yet. At this point, it seems to be rumor and speculation at what the virus is and does, and a lot of people seem to think it's a hoax. Not only that, but LA doesn't seem all that affected by it at this point. Maybe when the National Guard shows up will be when wildfire is declared, with the hopes of containment.

You know who I really want to see, the tentative "almost" cross over I demand... Eric Estrada in full (Chips) uniform, on a motor Cycle sticking it to the Zombies with his night stick like a fricking knight.

:D And it occurred to me that we never found out where the kid's girlfriend went. Is she still somewhere in the church? Is she out shambling around somewhere? I wonder if he will encounter her again.

you think people would notice a blond in her panties with a knife sticking out of her chest walking around
Not if she notices them first.

I think its vital that FTWD explores that to some degree, as it would add a sense of urgency to the outlook of the main characters. The way we know the zombie plague spreads so quickly, plus the utter lack of control over social media telling the story every second of the day, the government would not be able to spread successful misinformation to keep the masses from demanding an official address of some kind.

Well, there's no way to know how "everyone was infected." As Jenner said, "this is our extinction event," so, maybe, this was just some biological, or divine, design that activated one day (in everyone.... at once.) Okay, that doesn't hold up. But there aren't many ways for disease to infect a population of 7 billion people more-or-less at once no matter how it's communicated.

But you are not off track; Kirkman and company do not strike me as people making any serious moral statements about man's fate (probably deserved) through TWD, so the divine angle might not apply, but in the age of individuals and groups using disease-based and other forms of biological weapons, I would not write off the possibility that the ZA is the end result of a man-made weapon distributed around the world.

Its already getting out of control; from the nearly-abandoned school, to attacks all over the city (and once bitten, the victim becomes a predator/carrier), and the knife kid obviously experiencing more than others, the disease or weapon has spread far and wide.

Think of the students bused to school; they might live anywhere from a few blocks to 30+ miles from school, so if they are infected, returning to an area already suffering, or find themselves suffering from a light zombie bite or scratch, but still return to school, the disease has a chance to canvas Los Angeles in a matter of hours.

The Walking Dead to show airline zombie attack in stand-alone special

What if an episode of The Walking Dead was set on a passenger airliner before civilization had fallen?

That’s basically what AMC is planning in a highly unusual — if not totally unprecedented — new special that’s set during the time period of the hit drama’s companion series, Fear the Walking Dead.

Here’s the plan: EW has exclusively learned AMC is producing a half-hour special that will tell a stand-alone story following a group of passengers facing a walker attack on an airline while in flight. One character who survives that encounter will then join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead in season 2. So, yes: Zombies on a Plane.

The airline attack story will debut online, and will unfold this in chapters that will air during Walking Dead’s on-air telecasts. In other words: You’re watching The Walking Dead, AMC cuts to commercial break, then you get a chapter in the as-yet-untitled stand-alone airline attack drama.

Well, it's not quite the anthology I wanted, but it sounds cool. If it works out, maybe they'll do more. But I'd rather see an outbreak on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean.

I've worked aboard cruise ships. I actually think a good percentage of the crew would survive but not most of the passengers. The saving grace of a ship is how compartmentalized it is. close all the fire doors on the ship from the bridge and you've immediately contained most of the zombies. So now all you have to worry about is the open areas like the pool decks and the atruim deck. Heck, do it right and you can lure the zombies out an open door/railing and into the ocean. Like lemmings.

That sounds a lot better than a Zombie outbreak in a plane cabin.

Slightly more interesting episode.

Good points:

Finally! A crew in biohazard suits arrived to pick up a body. So, this early on, there is a government response--and they must know more. Is it only a couple of days into the beginning of the outbreak?

Creepy knife kid proves its not so easy to stab someone in the head....just the thing sold by the parent series. Had to say it.

In the current social climate, there would be instant outrage to the idea of a homeless person being gunned down by the police.

Smart cop loading his trunk with cases of bottled water, which suggests he (and probably most of law enforcement) know exactly what's happening (supported by the riot / response) and he's not waiting around for a cure, or is going to sacrifice his life to maintain order.

Alicia said something interesting: "If he has it, I have it," which I assumed meant they were sexually active. Although it was revealed Matt suffered a bite, what would happen to an otherwise healthy subject if they were involved with a person who carried the Z disease, but were not presenting with any symptoms (obviously, no bites, fever, etc.), would that accelerate the disease in the healthy subject? This is all fantasy, but this disease has no one, set way of killing (often changed to suit the drama).

Really bad points:

The daughter was willing to leave her junkie brother suffering from withdrawal (she's the one who seems to know all about his condition, so...) to run back to Matt--the ill-fated love of her life...by walking through the streets.

Even if she's unaware of the ZA, the general chaos should make anyone think twice before running around, particularly when some among the living are more than willing to commit opportunity crimes (theft, rape, etc.). That makes her seem like a pretty big idiot. I can excuse TWD S2 Carl wandering off--he's a kid, but Alicia...no.

Madison being too tight-lipped with her daughter. She now knows cannibalistic zombies are the loose, so after the drug dealer, the mystery act about Alicia's boyfriend, the principal (or whoever he is) trying to eat the kid, the first thing to do (to prevent the girl from doing just what she tried at the end of the episode) is to be straight with her. If Madison was just a second too late in running after her, the girl would have run right to her doom.

It's still early in the ZA, so many societal adaptations have yet to take root. One being to no longer "protect your kids" from the truth. The mom has done and seen a lot of horrible things in the last day or so, she's hardly going to jump right into telling her teenage daughter society is falling apart and that people out there who are "sick" are deadly cannibals. I sorta hope Acne Kid is a regular.

On the knife thing, to be fair to the parent series, the zombies there are older so arguably have softer bone, and the kid had a crummy kitchen steak knife (which, really he came back for it, there's not 30 more back at home?) TWD crew use hardier attack knives and machetes. Interesting how "quickly" things are now falling apart.

Good episode, and, really?! Two weeks for the next one?! Sigh.

Oh, interesting idea by the mom to use opiate medication to wean her son... but the school has opiates stored on site?! Do they have a dedicated doctor there? A lot of students in need of strong pain killers? "They're confiscated drugs," I hear you saying; if so wouldn't they have to turn those in to the police? Why are there bottles of freakin' Oxy on site? That's some hard shit!

2 week!?!?! 2 WEEKS!?!?!?! ARGGHHHHHHH! I want another 2 HOURs now!.

So, I had an idea. Borrowing from Naked and Afraid, lets start using the Survival Index to rate our characters.

Mom/Madison's index starts at a solid 4.0, but this week she showed a rapid ability to come to terms with killing and resourcefulness in finding drugs for her son. I raise her to a definite 6.0 at this point.

Dad I think was a solid 5 for being willing to explore what was going down in the first episode. In this episode he didn't get much chance to shine but does get some points for getting the ex and son out of the frying pan and into a smaller fire. His score is now at 5.4.

Sis has and remains clueless at a 2.0

Druggy son starts at a 5 for street smarts and ends this episode with a 5.3 for faking a seizure to save his sister, or at least taking credit for saving her.

Knife kid gets an initial rating of 4. It would be lower for being a bit soft physically, but he knows more than anyone of the other main characters and is already planning months ahead. If he survives long enough to become an effective fighter his score will rise quickly.

Camera son was pretty much a non-entity last episode, so we can only judge him based on what we saw tonight - pretty stupid. He followed the crowd like a lemming and stayed way too long after it was clear a riot was going to break out. I give him the low rating of the group at 1.

Ex-wife seems totally oblivious to the situation but open to reacting somewhat intelligently to what she does see. We'll give her a provisional score of 3.5.

Three replies in 90 minutes after the second episode ended.

Welp, I guess this show is dead.
