If someone doesn't know, this is the communist/socialist anthem written in the 19th century France.

You can listen to it in different languages here:

So which version is your favourite?

My favourite is the second russian version. It just has so much emotion and revolutionary spirit to it. The albanian version comes close too.

Oh, and remember: this is a music discussion, so let's not start arguing about politics!

I wasn't completely sure whether "TV & Media" was the correct place for this thread though...

While I have no actual comment on your thread topic ... I must say that I do like that site you've posted the link to.

A long story short, I obtained Col. Bourgeios's transcription of A Slavic Farewell for my school's band. I started searching for recordings and similar Russian/Soviet pieces. I am quite fascinated by the Sovietized versions of Tschaikovsky's Marche Slav and 1812 Overture. The Glinka hymn doesn't quite fit in those pieces, but they subbed it in for the Tsarist Anthem nonetheless.

I would like to explore more music from Russia. I hope that the Colonel puts out more accessible band arrangements of things he found blowing in the snowbanks when the Marine Band toured the USSR.

Also a big fan of Salvation is Created in just about every incarnation in which it exists.
