Favourite Star Wars scene?

"Like my father before me..."

HEY!

On another note, in regard to Admiral2's comment about Ozzel being stupid, I heard an unofficial theory - that I choose to adopt for my own Star Wars backstory, that Ozzel was actually a rebel sympathizer, so he was trying to find a way to warn them. I kind of like this, since I find him a much more interesting character if he's not an idiot.
It's not official, but I like it.

Nah. It's only a funny scene if he's an idiot.

Remember, a few scenes before that he's being condescending to DARTH VADER while Vader's telling him (rightly) Hoth is where the rebels are. "Milord, there are hundreds of these settlements out here. It could be smugglers, or..." and then the genius pops into the system where the rebels could detect them. Now, maybe this screams to you "rebel saboteur", but I don't think Vader's that stupid, so it makes more sense to me that Ozzel is just a pretentious screw up that got pwned by his boss.

And...it's just funnier that way. :D
Perhaps funnier, yes. But I have a hard time findingthe Empire threatening if its officers are baffoons. Like a space age Hogan's Heroes and their Nazis. As for him trying trying to tell Vader that Hoth was probably a no go for rebels, I see that as him knowing they are there and trying - perhaps desperately - to protect them.
As I said, this is completely unofficial, but I like it. Take it for what it's worth.

I don't have one scene that is my favourite. Thought I'd list some EU scenes instead of movies one.

*Luke kneeling before the Emperor in DE, "My father's destiny is my own."
*Ton Phanan's death
*Lumiya's death, "I'd never let you fall"
*The big reveal in KOTOR

The attack on the first Death Star has always been my favorite. The entire scene is maybe my fav scene in any movie. Well maybe after some of the battle scenes in Trek 2 :)

*The big reveal in KOTOR

Yo. Pretty good shit for a videogame, no?

As far as the movies go, I'll have to go with Luke/Vader/Palpatine from ROTJ. It was good to get some kind of large resolution to everything.

All the individual movies have their moments of triumph at the end, but for the most part there's just a huge depressing pall over the whole saga. It's like you can finally exhale when Vader chucks Palps into the abyss.

Actually...real life Nazis? Not so brilliant:

"Hey, you know what let's do? Let's support our good buddy Japan and declare war on the United States, a country who's populace don't care about us right now and has the biggest industrial base on the planet!"

"Wow. Moscow's sure purty this time of year. Hey! Let's stay right here on the outskirts and see what it's like in the dead of winter!"

"Mussolini is a perfectly reliable ally!"

As for him trying trying to tell Vader that Hoth was probably a no go for rebels, I see that as him knowing they are there and trying - perhaps desperately - to protect them.

Not the point. He was condescending in tone. Saboteur or not, you don't condescend to Darth Vader! The last two guys to condescend to Vader? One was Governor Tarkin (blow'd up with the Death Star), the other was this idiot:

"This station is now the ultimate power in the Universe, so we have no need for your ancient religion...UUUURKKK!

Even Palpatine and Obi-Wan Kenobi had sense enough to show Vader respect when it was called for. Rebel booster or not, Ozzel didn't, which was stupid of him, which is why he got offed.

As I said, this is completely unofficial, but I like it. Take it for what it's worth.

Let's put it to a post vote. BBSers, I submit Admiral Ozzel: Desperate Rebel Sympathizer or Freakin' Moron? What say you?

I am like many others in my inability to narrow it down to one - not even one per movie - but here's my best-per-movie, ranked w/best at the top:

- Asteroid Chase - Empire Strikes Back - the music is soaring, and the special effects were SOOO much better than anyone could have hoped for back then... truly inspiring
- Duel of the Fates - Phantom Menace - say what you want about the prequel trilogy, the two-on-one duel between Maul, ObiWan and QuiGon is miles, MILES above any possible lightsaber duel expectations... I still am shocked at how believable Ewan McGregor is as a Jedi in that sequence when it is one-on-one at the end of that fight... truly awesome
- Yoda vs Dooku - Attack of the Clones - speaking of better than you could have hoped for, they truly outdid themselves in making it look like an aged actor was dueling with a one-foot tall green screen legend... it was cool and funny and geek-popping exciting all at once
- Escape from the Death Star - A New Hope - once they get on board and Han hopes that the Old Man knocked out the tractor beam, all the way to the explosion of the last TIE fighter in pursuit, that was top-notch... even better for me than the trench sequence at the end.
- ObiWan vs Anakin - Revenge of the Sith - surprised that this fell as far as it did, but considering that it was just topping over the previously spectacular lightsaber duels, I guess this is where it ends up - the actors here really went for it and are totally belivable in their physical skills
- battle at Death Star II - Return of the Jedi - speaking of surprised - this was probably the greatest technical achievement in moviemaking from a SFX standpoint up to the point when the movie came out... lots and lots going on there, but the prequels have really managed to top it in terms of sheer amount of stuff going on.

I'd not heard that theory. There is a similar one concerning Admiral Needa though. In the X-wing novel Wedge's Gamble an Imperial facility commanded by Needa's cousin Virar is used by the New Republic in their attack on Coruscant. At the suggestion of a co-worker, Virar attempts to ingratiate himself with claims that his cousin had Rebel sympathies, and deliberately let the Falcon go.

Admiral, I will agree that to condescend to Vader was pretty damn stupid.

I still like the idea, though.;)

I gotta go with the asteroid chase, particularly its beginning, in TESB, it indeed had amazing effects, music and drama.

TPM - The Lightsabre duel

AOTC - None really

ROS - The Lightsabre Duel between Obiwan and Anakin "You were suposed to be the CHOSEN ONE!"

ANH - Han shooting Greedo under the table and Greedo NOT shooting "Sorry for the mess"

The Run and Gun B-17 like feel of the escape from the Death Star shootout with the Falcon and the TIE Fighters "Great shot kid...Don't get cocky!" :techman:

The Assault on the Death Star (from the Launch on Yavin to the Destruction of the Death Star) "Lock S Foils into attack position , switch on your deflectors shields, double front"

ESB - The Battle on Hoth "Ahh Good our first catch of the day!"

Han and Leia's good bye "I love you....I know" :)

ROTJ - The scene in which Vader learns of Leia, so moody and creepy "Yes, your thoughts betray you.../SISTER/! If you will not be turned to the Dark Side then perhaps she /will/!.....NOOOO!"

The Huge Space Battle above Endor "IT'S A TRAP!" :D

Visually...
1. The rebel hangar scene in Ep IV
2. The Imperial Walker Attack from Ep V (Also the best over all.)
3. The Flying Wing's arrival on Corsicant

The saga actually ended with Darth Vader's death on Cloud City... Han put three shots into him at the "dinner" scene. (To close to Vader for him to react properly, and the blasts were too powerful at that range even for "the Force" to handle.) Suspension of disbelief was ruined at that point...although not as bad as the elementary school aged Anakin in Ep I.:brickwall:

Of all the bitching about Star Wars, I gotta' admit...that's a new one.

Yeesh.... :wtf:

I also gotta' admit, though, this part; "...the blasts were too powerful at that range even for "the Force" to handle...Suspension of disbelief was ruined at that point..." may be the most unintentionally funny line I've heard in some time! :guffaw:

Boy, trying to name a favorite Star Wars scene? Geez!!! There are literally too many to mention. I guess I'll probably have to do a movie by movie by story comparison.

TPM: End battle between Naboo and the Trade Federation and, of course, the lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon and Darth Maul. The celebration at the end was nicely done and built up to a nice finale.

AOTC: Arena battle was stunning, as was the opening battle of the Clone Wars. Of course, the lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan/Anakin/Yoda and Dooku. I thought it was particularly interesting how, even though Dooku was able to defeat Anakin, Dooku actually looked a bit shaken at how powerful Anakin was.

ROTS: The opening space battle, Mace vs. Palpatine, Order 66, the slaying of the Separatist leaders. *I thought the duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan was great but felt forced by the plot. It didn't really seem like they had a *good* reason to fight, particularly since Obi-Wan seemed rather reluctant to take him on but, of course, we all knew that they had to fight because of the continuity. Some improvement in dialogue in this scene would've probably made it better.

ANH: The Death Star battle of course!!!!

ESB: Geez!!! I don't think there was one particular scene I liked best. I loved the ENTIRE movie from start to finish. A PERFECT MOVIE!

ROTJ: Jabba's Sail Barge Assault, Luke's surrender to Vader on Endor and his confrontation with Vader and the Emperor aboard the Death Star, Victory Celebration (2004 SE)

Stories:

Thrawn Trilogy: Thrawn's introduction, Luke & Mara's escape from the Imperials on Myrkr, the Rebel's attempts to capture the Katana Fleet, Leia's exposing the Empire's betrayal of the Noghri, Thrawn's unexpected death at the hands of his own bodyguards, Mara fulfilling her "last command"

Dark Empire I: Han and Leia's confrontation with Boba Fett and Fett's accidental shooting of one of the Hutts, Luke's sabotage of the Emperor's plans and later confrontation with the Emperor.

New Jedi Order: "Vector Prime": Chewie's death on Sernpidal *sniff* Anakin/Jacen/Jaina's Jedi "meld" while fighting off the Vong, the destruction of the Vong's staging base at the end.

Legacy of the Force: "Betrayal": Jacen's confrontation with Lumiya at her "home", the failed Jedi Strike Team on Correllia, Jacen's tragic decision to kill Nelani, Ben's interaction with "Anakin" at Centerpoint Station.

My all-time favourite was always the pull out from the medical frigate in ESB, overlooking the galaxy. But another one I like was Obi-Wan handing over Luke to his uncles, and then walking away.
