Favourite Novel, Series

My all-time favorite piece of TrekLit is Serpent Among the Ruins: DRGIII at his best, especially considering what he turned one of the worst Trek characters ever (Harriman) into—believably. I love the political intrigue, the "unknown" backstory between Harriman and his Romulan rival and the early glimpse of Vaughn. Looking elsewhere at the Lost Era, I also really liked Catalyst of Sorrows and really wish we'd see a followup to that book one day.

A close second to all-time favorite is Crucible: McCoy - Providence of Shadows. This tale of McCoy's dual lives is both moving and heart-breaking. I actually cried when reading the ending of the book. The depth of friendship shown between McCoy and Spock in that simple little scene was magnificent.

My favorite currently running series has to be the Voyager relaunch, although back when it first started, I would have said the DS9 relaunch. But, what Kirsten Beyer has done with Voyager is simply amazing. I can not wait for the next entry (there will be a next entry, right? :techman:).

My favorite "series" of all time is Millenium. This had such and epic scale and was so wide-ranging that it just couldn't be topped (in its time). Granted, Destiny is equally as epic and it too is such a close second. But I have to give Millenium the nod. I truly wish we'd see Judith and Gar Reeves-Stevens do more TrekLit.

Actually it was Peter David's The Captain's Daughter that created the Litverse interpretation of John Harriman. DRGIII took that version of the character and his backstory and expanded on it very effectively, but PAD deserves his share of the credit too.

True enough. I had forgotten about that. I haven't read that in years. I'll have to dig it up and give it another read.

All of Titan
All of Vanguard
Beyer's VOY Relaunch
Destiny onwards

Easily the best, but I cannot forget Articles of the Federation or Ex Machina.

I completely forgot Titan: Orion's Hounds!!! I loved that novel!! Not only very alien life, but also a very alien culture. Another example of Christopher's great writing ability.

the single best Trek novel EVER: Prime Directive.

favourite series: New Frontier, followed by SCE and Vanguard

other brilliant stuff:
TTN Orion's Hounds, SCE: Wildfire, A Time to Kill/A Time to Heal, DTI: Watching the Clock, Indistinguishable from Magic, NF: Once Burned, NF: Stone and Anvil, Double Helix: Double or Nothing, Burning Dreams, Sorrows of Empire, Q-squared, Klingon Empire: A Burning House, Places of Exile, A Less Perfect Union, Q&A, Before Dishonour and Destiny trilogy.

I love threads like this, I get so many ideas. Case and point, several people mentioned DS9 Millenium which I had not noticed before. Now it is on the list.

One of my favorite Crossover series began with the very first time they were published in the early 1990s The crossover series that was first Published where the crews had to try and atop an alien Invasion. I think it was called the Demons trilogy.I really liked the Ds9 novel written By L.A. Graff. Also the Tos Trilogy where Kirk tells stories about Gary Mitchell to Mr Spock before they were really good friends.

No, you had it right the first time -- it was called Invasion! and it was four volumes. The antagonists were called the Furies, as I recall. Demons was the name of a single TOS novel by J. M. Dillard back in the '80s.

Also the Tos Trilogy where Kirk tells stories about Gary Mitchell to Mr Spock before they were really good friends.

My Brother's Keeper by Michael Jan Friedman.

Thanks Christopher for the information it's been a longtime since I've read these books.

The "if I were marooned on a deserted island and could only pack 5 books" list:
The Art of the Impossible by Keith R.A. DeCandido
Articles of the Federation by Keith R.A. DeCandido
Orion's Hounds by Christopher L. Bennett
Reap the Whirlwind by David Mack
Wagon Train to the Stars by Diane Carey

Avatar by S.D. Perry would be on that list if only it wasn't in 2 pieces, lol. (Don't get me wrong, I prefer it that way. I wouldn't trade that cover image for anything.)

There are a LOT of candidates for the 5-10 spots, so I purposely never made a list of that. ;-)

ST: TOS: The Captain's Daughter by Peter David
The Shatner books (the ones he helped write, starting with The Return)
ST DS9: Fallen Heroes by Dafydd ab Hugh
ST:TOS Dreadnought and Battlestations by Diane Carey
ST TNG: Q Continuum Trilogy by Greg Cox

I really like a lot of Star Trek books (I own over 80), but those are the ones that I immediately think about when I think of the books I really like.

Series: DS9 Re-launch (Avatar through Worlds of DS9 book 3)

Single Novel: Federation

Series:

-Diane Duane's Rihannsu work
-DS9 Relaunch
-DS9 Millenium Trilogy

-Final Frontier and Best Destiny (I love this Robert April!)
-Prime Directive
-Uhura's Song
-Imzadi
-Spock's World
-The Never-Ending Sacrifice
-"Paradigm" (the Andoria novella)

Hmm, can you tell I have a strong love of xeno-anthropological novels? I think almost all my favorites have a strong sense of "explore alien culture!"

Then I'd also recommend Heather Jarman's SCE novellas Balance of Nature (about the Nasat) and 10 is Better than 01 (about the Bynars). And I'm rather fond of the alien culture-building in TNG: Imbalance by V. E. Mitchell.
