What is your favourite bit of humour or lightness in Star Trek - I've always like that scene with "Captain Picard day" - everyone acts in character (Riker taking the piss, Picard looking deeply uncomfortable) and for it just works as a scene.

My favorite is the scene when Kirk liberates McCoy in The Search For Spock. It has two of my favorite lines: "How many fingers am I holding up?" and "That green-blooded son of a bitch! It's his revenge for all those arguments he lost!"

Trek doesn't tackle humor very well. It often comes out as cheesy, tacky, predictable, cringe-worthy or a combination of those.

The TOS films handled humor fairly well (most of the time... TFF not included). The TNG films...umm... not so much.

Basically, I like the humor that comes legitimately from the situations. Not the forced, one-liners that we sometimes get.

Many incidents from DS9, excluding of course the horrendous Ferengi comedies.

The Magnificent Ferengi & House of Quark demonstrate that even Ferengi can be funny matched up with Vortas or Klingons.
