Favourite authors

Using BookBubs can reveal some hidden indie gems... and as I'm a member of Renaissance Next I also know a few more to put in the list anyway. :)

- Patty Jansen: Sci-fi, though also does fantasy.
- J R Lallo: Mostly for his Big Sigma series but also does other stuff.
- Christopher Nuttall: Currently reading his Schooled in Magic series.
- @RJDiogenes has some awesome short story/poetry collections.
- @blablover5 : Dwarves In Space!
- Jesse Schulz: Mega-length historical/fantasy/SF... not sure how to describe his stuff actually. It's just awesome.

Non-indies:

- Terry Pratchett (duh): Fantasy
- @Kirsten Beyer (again duh): Sci-fi
- @KRAD (again duh): Sci-fi/fantasy (excluding tie-in I particularly like his Cassie Zhukav and Dragon Precinct series)
- LA Gilman: Fantasy
- Jasper Fforde: Fantasy/comedy

And many more... :D

I've read a fair few of Chris Nuttall's, but I don't think I've read his Schooled in Magic series yet.

  • J.R.R. Tolkien (Middle-Earth is my favorite place to visit in books)
  • Robert Louis Stevenson (Treasure Island is amazing. Jekyll and Hyde is fascinating)
  • Suzanne Collins (Gregor the Overlander is not nearly as popular as it should be)
  • J.K. Rowling (Incredible world building and detail in her overall storytelling)
  • Sergei Lukyanenko (the Night Watch series is really fascinating from a philosophical and moral standpoint)
  • Isaac Asimov (Foundation was the first sci-fi series I read and enjoyed)
  • Patrick Carmen (great middle-grade/YA author - The Land of Elyon and Atherton series are really good)
  • Kate DiCamillo (Because of Winn-Dixie and Tale of Despereaux - both fantastic middle-grade novels)
  • Jerry Spinelli (for Stargirl alone - but also because of his incredibly deep and thoughtful socially-relevant books)

I love BookBub, too! I can take a chance on a free book.

RJD is definitely one of my favourites, particularly his poems
Then there are Terry Pratchett, Beatrix Potter, Elizabeth Lynn, Sven Nordquist, G.K. Chesterton, Agatha Christie, Shakespeare, Byron, Paul Keller, Musäus, Tove Jansson, Astrid Lindgren, Neil R. Jones, Basho, and lots of others :)
I have a particular weakness for books from the late 18th and early 19th century - writers used such a beautiful and rich language back then.

My favorites include:

Arthur C Clarke
Isaac Asimov
Robert Heinlein
Harlan Ellison
Ray Bradbury
Edgar Allan Poe
HP Lovecraft
Arthur Conan Doyle
William Gibson
Jack McDevitt

Favorite comic writers would be:

Stan Lee
Roy Thomas
Steve Englehart
Steve Gerber
Doug Moench
Alan Moore
Kurt Busiek

Aw, thanks very much, Jim. :) I totally agree about blab and Jesse. One of the great things about modern publishing is that we get to read great independent authors who would have been unknown in the past. I can think of another writer I know who would be on my list if he would take advantage of those opportunities. :D

RJD is definitely one of my favourites, particularly his poems .
Thank you very much. I appreciate that. :)
