Favorite Voice Actors

I love voice actors and I've always wondered if anyone shares my "obsession."

One of my most favorites is Maurice LaMarche. I first saw him in an HBO Rich Little show in the early 80s. His Tony Curtis impression blew me away. Since then he's been the voice of The Brain, Inspector Gadget, Egon Spengler, Kif Kroker, and the list goes on and on.

He's the guy who originated "Talk Like William Shatner Day" about 5 years ago. Here's a video:

Who are your favorite voice actors?

And of course, Orson Welles.

My favorites:

Maurice LaMarche, of course.

Kevin Conroy - Over 20 years of Batman. and it's not just the quantity, but the quality too.

Mark Hamill - If for nothing else, his role as the Joker (which he has been doing off and on for almost as long as Conroy has done Batman). To me, his is the best Joker, animated or live-action.

Tara Strong - She's one of those "that person's everywhere!" voice actors. She's very versatile with her voice. Also, she's very friendly with her fans on Twitter.

Billy West - Like Strong, he's very versatile.

In no particular order:

Maurice LaMarche
Tara Strong
Kevin Conroy
John DiMaggio
Andrea Libman
Mark Hamill
Billy West

I've wanted to be a voice actor for years, so I look up to these amazing, talented actors.

Not a voice actor as such, but I'd have to say Pablo Francisco, one of my favorite comedians/voice impressionists.

This is fun. Thanks for joining in. :)

Sterling Holloway had an instantly recognizable voice and he used it to great effect as Winnie the Pooh. But if you mention Pooh, you have to include John Fiedler's Piglet and Paul Winchell's Tigger.

Speaking of Paul Winchell, does anyone remember the original "Scrubbing Bubbles" commercial? That was classic Winchell.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Grey DeLisle, probably the most amazing voice actress of our generation, and I'm saying that as a huge fan of Tara Strong.

*smacks self* You're absolutely right. I love Grey DeLisle, and can't believe I forgot to mention her!

I'm loving this. :)

Gary Owens was the voice of Space Ghost before George Lowe did the hilarious parody Coast to Coast.

Don Messick and Daws Butler did amazing work in the early Hanna-Barbera stuff.

Another one of my favorites is Bill Scott.

June Foray. Nuff said.

Tress MacNeille. Yeah. :)

Jim Cummings took the Pooh character and ran with it. He does about a hundred other voices too.

Billy West is probably the king of VO these days. He's done just about everything, including taking over the Red M&M character from Jon Lovitz.

I just love all this voiceover character stuff. If I had been more ambitious when I was younger I'd have moved to California and tried it myself.

Neither beats Janet Waldo as far as I'm concerned...

And if we're only talking American animation, I'm going with:

Alan Reed
Mel Blanc
Paul Frees
Daws Butler
Mike Road
Michael Bell
BJ Ward
Neil Ross

And, of course,

FRANK WELKER
PETER CULLEN

A great many of the VA's already mentioned in the thread so far and of course Ellen McLain.

Jim Cummings took the Pooh character and ran with it. He does about a hundred other voices too.

I've always found it rather amazing that Jim Cummings plays both Winnie the Pooh and the Tasmanian Devil. Now, that's range.

But then there's James Arnold Taylor, who's currently the voice of both Obi-Wan Kenobi and Fred Flintstone. That's another odd pairing.

There's a neat movie out now on Netflix streaming and elsewhere, I Know That Voice. It's produced by John DiMaggio, and it's a series of interviews with dozens of voice actors, all the big names except Frank Welker, oddly enough. Voice directors like Andrea Romano too. It's really fascinating if you're a fan of voice acting.

I tend to not notice voice acting unless it's really bad. That said, some I like are:

Ellen McClain
Stephen Merchant
JK Simmons
(okay, so everyone in Portal 2)

Jennifer Hale

Great Idea for a thread! :)

Peter Coyote
Richard Kiley (spared no expense!)

and I really did like Sigourney in the American version of "Planet Earth"
