Favorite Valentine's Day Counter-programming?

As much as I love romantic comedies, and especially love to watch them on Valentine's Day, the truth is, every year I watch two movies. One of those, and then something to "cleanse the palate" — remind me that the world isn't all hunky-dory, and the guy doesn't always get the girl (and when he does get the girl, it's not always heaven on earth).

Every Valentine's Day, I watch Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

The epic, caustic battle of wits and wills between George (Richard Burton) and Martha (Elizabeth Taylor) is absolutely brilliant to watch in action. As the night drags on and they get drunker and drunker, and tear each other apart in front of their guests (George Segal & Sandy Dennis), it's an awesome, soul-searing spectacle that you can't turn away from. The profanity and sexually charged dialogue that nearly threatened the film's release in 1966 are quaint today, but the emotional core of the film is still just as compelling 50 years later.

That's my V-Day counter-programming... does anyone else do this?

War of the Roses with Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas...it's a great black comedy! Not every relationship ends with a happy ending, that's for sure.

I've spent most of today watching episodes of Homicide: Life on the Street. I'm at an especially brutal portion of Season 3, what with Felton's wife leaving him and not even telling him where she's taken the kids and Giardello going ballistic when he thinks a woman won't go out with him because he's too black. (Although, it still feels a little romantic to me because I'm absolutely in love with Kay Howard.)
