My personal favorite is the Obsidian Order, but you guys have made some very interesting points about Section 31 and Tal Shiar that I hadn't considered. I guess it really pays to get input from more experienced Trekkies.

Obsidian Order. I'm not sure why I prefer it to Tal Shiar, I guess it was just the most interesting in the show itself. All 'secret services' in Trek are interesting. Section 31 is ironically the only one that is really 'secret', but I actually find the ones that everyone knows about (Obsidian Order and Tal Shiar) a lot more menacing, since they remind me of the real life 'secret police'/state security organizations that they were modeled on (from KGB to Stasi to OZNA/UDBA/SDB) which were very sinister and menacing. Their lack of secrecy was their strength, as they were in fact instruments of state terrorism, and a forces of their own at the same time. Many of their actions were secret, but their existence was known to everyone, which is exactly what they wanted, since it served to instill the terror in the population.

Ever notice most Tal Shiar captains are women? I get the sneaking suspicion they seduced and killed their way to the captain's chair... That Tal Shiar captain in Starfleet Command III was the worst.. everything about her screamed snake. Plus she practically won in her endeavor to destroy the Federation/Klingon alliance.
You're right.... I mean, obviously, if a woman is in a position of authority, it HAS to be because she slept her way to the top. Even if most of other commanders are women. Lots of lesbians there. Whereas, if a man is a commander, there is certainly no way he could have slept his way to the top. Even if there are lots of women in positions of authority, it's biologically impossible, because women don't want sex unless it's in order to use it to get something else... or if it's with another woman. And of course, we all know that male homosexuality does not exist. Star Trek told me so. :shifty: :vulcan:

I should probably mention now that I satire humanity quite often.

I voted for Section 31 though because they are not common knowledge among their own people. Every Cardassian knows about the Obsidian Order, every Romulan knows to fear the Tal'Shiar. Section 31 is is the ultimate secret service.

Section 31--all the way.

Thanks to the Founders, the O.O. bites the dust.

Thanks to the Founders, the Tal Shiar mostly bites the dust.

Thanks to Section 31, the Founders come this close to biting the dust.

Who is superior? I'd think the answer's obvious.

Can't argue with either of these two rationales. So I gotta go with Section 31 too.

And here I was, originally coming into this thread to vote for the Obsidian Order, based purely on my enjoyment of the Garak/Tain storyline.
