Favorite Trek related moment in your own life

Just thinking back to the times of the TOS films coming out, the sense of elation I had that the franchise had survived the 70's and Kirk and Spock were still on the screen.

For me, the holiday season, '86 was very special. Star Trek IV was a huge commercial success, and I remember one evening going out for a walk, and just continuting on to my local theater for my fourth viewing of ST IV just for the heck of it. Good times.

My other favorite Trek moment was having a private screening of ST VI at a theater from my brother for his birthday a few years ago. I worked for Paramount at the time, and had all the right connections to make it happen, and I'm glad I could do that for him.

It's hard to single out just one, but . . . .

Walking into a bookstore in Rome to find my Q trilogy on sale in Italian!

Watching "Space Seed" in my elementary school gymnasium when I was in the Second or Third grade.

I was too young to remember the actual details of what happened--either it was a teacher's strike or some sort of widespread heating or cooling problem--but one day, everyone was rounded up in the gymnasium and "Speed Seed" was shown on a a very old film reel projector on a big screen. I remember a lot of us going "Oooo" when Khan and McGivers kissed and cheering when Kirk and Khan duked it out in the end. After that, they sent us all home and some of us even recreated the Kirk and Khan fight before we left the school grounds.

Not a bad way to end a school day, IMO...

Oh my gosh, I remember watching Star Trek in school as a kid, too. Just like that, with the old projector. We watched "The Menagerie" in the band room under the supervision of the music teacher, for no reason that I can remember - perhaps for no reason at all. I was astonished that the music teacher liked Star Trek - at that young age, I thought it was something that only my family enjoyed.

When I beamed aboard the U.S.S K. Federline and opened fire on Kai Winn and forever silenced her voice which drove me to 3 suicide attempts which were documented in local papers

Meeting George Takei after being dragged to a local convention by my then-fiancee. It was the start of an amazing voyage during which I became friends with several Trek actors and producers involved with Trek. Although things did not turn out as well as hoped, it was a time I shall always cherish.

I just wrote a condensed version of this event in another thread:

About 10 years ago, when my daughter was almost 3, I was in the scifi section of a bookstore. Her pushchair was facing the other way from me, so she made a point of YELLING the following at me:

Her: Ooh, Mommy, look! Tar Trek!
Me: Oh, yes.
Her: But it's Tar Trek, Mommy, TAR TREK!
Me, slightly embarrassed: Yes, honey, I see it.
Her: LITTLE ENTERPRISE, MOMMY! LITTLE ENTERPRISE!*

A few aisles over I heard a couple of people howling with laughter. It was embarrassing at the time but it's now one of my favourite stories to tell about her (that, and the time she mistook a newspaper photo of John Prescott for Oliver Hardy).

*at the time the BBC was showing both TOS and TNG, and she labled TOS as having the "little Enterprise".

Early 90's. A friend (who was also a Trek fan) and I were driving to a store. A car with Iowa plates pulls out in front of us and proceeds to go v-e-r-y s-l-o-w, and this was on a local street where the limit was only in the 30 range to begin with. He screams at her the way most people do when they're in the car "COME ON YOU STUPID BITCH! WHAT, ARE YOU FROM OUTER SPACE?!?"

Me: "No, she's from Iowa. She only works in outer space."

Here Are My Personal Favorite Trek Highlights

1. Seeing the Star Trek Experience for the first time (including the bar, gift shop, and the restaurant).

2. Picking up TNG and DS9 the role playing game books.

3. Reading the New Frontier Book Series.

4. Seeing Star Trek Experience's Borg ride (on my 3rd visit).

5. (In reflection): My initiation into Star Trek. An acquaintance from school had let me borrow his 9 hour VHS tapes with TNG episodes taped onto them. I also remember how cool it was to see the original TNG grey case VHS tapes on his display shelf, too.

6. (In reflection): Eating chipped beef on toast while watching an Original Series episode when I was just a little kid.

7. (In reflection): Remember seeing the movie poster outside of the theater for Star Trek: The Motion Picture when I was little.

8. Making a Star Trek collage and a Voyager model (of which I eventually gave to a friend).

9. Winning a bargain on an auction (on Ebay) for a good majority of the Star Trek Magazines.

10. The first time I watched Deep Space Nine Season's 4-7 (including the Season 3 cliffhanger).

11. Playing a TNG role playing campaign with my buds.

12. Doing a TNG book presentation in class. I did large poster board drawings of the beginning credits of TNG and it's beginning score to start my book report off with a bang!

Side Note:

Sorry. I really don't have one defining personal favorite Trek moment.

96 was a good time for me. I was 14 years old, DS9 and VOY were going strong, and First Contact was on the way. It felt at the time like Trek was invincible, and would go on forever. Dare I say it, Trek was almost cool in the mainstream back then. Sadly, the backlash was to begin only a few years later :(

I'm pleased Trek is now up and running again, thanks to XI! :)

My favorite memory will always be seeing Star Trek VI for the first time in theaters. I was around six at the time, and it served as my introduction to Star Trek, which I think has been fairly awesome to me since then.

I used to work in a building with a few Defense Contractors, and over time got to know several of the military officers who frequently came in.
Well, one was this rather attractive Navy Lieutenant. One day I was on an elevator, and she walks on with a new hairdo. I couldn't help but ask "Lieutenant, are you wearing your hair differently?" before realizing I had "plagarized" one of my favoritie scenes from ST2. He, He:lol:!

Watching my first ever Star Trek marathon in my little apartment in New Haven CT, sometime in the early eighties. Among many other moments.

For me, professionally I have to add the trip to LA I took during the production of Voyager, and post-production of Insurrection. One of the VP's gave me their assistant for the afternoon with a golf cart. She asked me what I wanted to see, so I made my dreams come true but saying "...well, I've always been a fan of Star Trek...." We rode over and then walked onto the Voyager set during the shooting of "Counterpoint" and then, driving past Frakes and Berman in a cart going in the opposite direction, went into the post production offices for Insurrection.

It was amazing, walking into the soundstage, turning the corner and seeing the bridge, lit and ready for a take. Everyone was so welcoming, the regulars who were there shook my hand and nudged me closer. I didn't want to be in the way, but they were just great. I then walked through the corridor and into the transporter room.

umm.
well.
Y'see, there was this dance major I was sort of seeing at the time (mid-80's)--and she painted herself green and recreated the scene from "The Cage"/"The Menagerie"--complete with recorded music and silk pillows.
erm.
Then there was that time--at an SF con in Ohio, with that fan lady I'd just met--wearing a Next Gen era uniform, and a car in the parking lot--and a spirited Salt Vampire impression and....
*cough*

Then there was this Klingon fan with the Duras sisters style costume and...a hand "agonizer" and...

y'know.
I've had a lot of favorite Trek moments.
prolly shouldn't talk about any of 'em though.
