Favorite and best are definitely different things, but, yeah, in my case, they both apply to EMPIRE.

Favorite? Star Wars. The original one. That's what it is in my head to this day: Star Wars. Not "A New Hope"or "Episode IV", just Star Wars. That's what it was when I spent the greater part of my summer vacation in '77 watching it over and over again at the Everett Theater. And, BTW, Han shot first.
:techman:

Yes! :) And for those of us who saw it in its first theatrical release in 1977, the whole "standing in a line that stretched for blocks" was also part of the experience. I saw it with my cousin and step-cousins, and to this day I remember what an amazing movie it was. I was still fairly new to science fiction/fantasy at that time (had been a Trekfan for less than 2 years at that point), and Star Wars was the first SF movie I'd ever seen in a theatre.

Thank goodness I still have my VHS set of the three original movies, so I don't have to make do with those abominable revisionist things. Han definitely shot first!

Han not only shot first but he barely flinched doing so. No jerky CGI head movements with that man.

That's why Han is arguably the original badass in the Star Wars universe, not Darth Vader. ;)

They're really not. My favorite episode of DS9 is "Trials and Tribble-lations" because of the fun nostalgia factor. However, it's far from DS9's best.

I said FOR ME, TT, they're the same. My fave is ESB, which I and many others consider it the best.

But the favorite/best argument is moot anyway since it asks for 'favorite' right there in the thread title. Whether it's actually best or not doesn't matter.

Then he casually stood up, stared down the room, tossed thre bartender some coin while casually apologizing for the mess and walked out the door. Seriously, who f&%$ing cares who shot first?

For me, Star Wars has been a slow decline, because I like each movie less than the one before it. Hopefully TFA reverses this trend.

ANH
ESB
ROTJ
(these are all bunched up pretty closely; I think they're all perfect, but ANH is just the most fun, and I think Star Wars should always be fun)

TPM

AOTC

ROTS
(the only other times I've left a movie theatre this disappointed were X-Men 3 and Spider-Man 3)

Obi-Wan took out two guys in that cantina literally disarming one of them. I'd say Obi-Wan was the badass of the first six movies

He was so powerful that he could even manipulate the message boards to create....agreement.

For awhile, I have felt that Episodes 3, 4, and 5, make a better trilogy than 4,5,6 and 1, 2,3. They flow well together. Since they are the most Empire and Jedi heavy. Plus you get the chintziest bits of Luke and Anakin's stories.

I felt ROTJ treated Luke and Vader like side characters in their own movie. Sure their arc was completed but so much going on in the film had nothing to do with them.
