There are many Star Trek Starship combat games, board or video.
Actually, mine is a fan based implementation from the Babylon 5 Wars game system. It was a strong design with a lot of granularity reflecting the various generatioins of Trekdom. It was also a hell of a lot of fun for cross over games vs almost any universe. However not for beginners - it took a bit to learn how to play, but the level of detail and tactical options that provided were worth it IMO.
If you want to take a look you can find it here:
Then mark your vote as "Other Video Game"
Starfleet Command 1 and 2 for PC (I never got to play the third one).
It's wonderful being immersed in a simulation based on SFB without having to memorize a million rules.
Thank you for the reply. I would suggest you vote either "Other Video Game" or Starfleet Battles.
I am sorry you never got to play Starfleet Command 3.
Wow, I had never heard of "Begin" before now. Interesting.
You could look it up (on Wikipedia), if have not already done so.
And what is your vote, by the way?
Oh, I did. And then looked at the external links Wikipedia provided. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. Always interesting to hear about past Trek-themed things that you weren't aware of.
Still pondering it. I generally don't play games for the combat. I'm currently leaning towards "other board game", but we'll see.
I picked "Stafleet Battles: Board Game", but it should read "Star Fleet Battles by ADB (board game)". Note that ADB has to make "Star Fleet" two words per their license agreement.
Probably the Starfleet Command video games (1 through 3). I never got the chance to play the board games or Bridge Commander (Would that count?) The Academy games weren't bad either.
There was also one I played on the Amiga way back when (by Tobias Richter if I recall) but that wasn't heavy on combat.
(Voted for other video games)
I played a lot of Starfleet Command (1 and 2) at LAN parties back in the day. Those are probably the ones I've played the most.
That being said, I have a huge soft spot for Klingon Academy. The 3-D cap-ship combat was pretty unique then (and even now, though less so), and having Christopher Plummer and David Warner reprise their roles was icing. I still regret that I never got to play that one multiplayer.
I voted for the FASA STSTCS game. Although it's been years since I've played a game. Still have all the manuals and ship minis.
If I could vote twice, I would vote "Other Video Game", specifically the Starfleet Command II and Starfleet Command: Orion Pirates games. As Kor stated, it's a great implementation of SFB on computer, even if it uses Movie era ship designs and conjectures, and the Kzinti are named Mirak!
FASA? I love STSTCS (I usually play Enterprise Class and my partner plays BH-2 Class Gorn Battleship, I usually win)! A great ship is the Winged-Defender Class Romulan Heavy Cruiser. Lots of power, good shields, and a Plasma Weapon.
I voted for SFB, but actually play SFC 1, 2, O/P are my favorites..SFC 3 was actually rather forgettable.
One can get them running again on modern systems but it's a bit of a grind (VMs and old windows copies running them)
but you can often find updated versions on websites such as GOG and Dynaverse which will allow you to download them (for a small fee)
I just played "Klingon Armada" for the first time last weekend - a really enjoyable, light-weight combat game from the SFB people. I've also enjoyed Attack Wing a lot lately - just play casually and stay away from the tournament crowd. Starfleet Battles and Federation Commander are both heavier than what I currently want to play, and the FASA game never seemed balanced - weighted very heavily towards the Fed ships.
Good job making it clear how you like STSTCS; having the Orion Wanderer blockade runner from FASA as your image.
I played that recently. I liked it too.
Other. Bridge Commander!
