Favorite Ship

What's your favorite ship design? This includes the entire Trek universe: aliens, Federation, from games, books, shows.

My favorite is the Excelsior-class mk 1. Long, graceful; everything later designs aren't.

There was this, which I believe was actually the first saucer serperation shown in the history of Star Trek.

Sovereign-class, no question. It's everything good about 24th-century design rolled into one package.

Runners-up would probably be Galaxy, Defiant, Akira, and Steamrunner. Excelsior I like a lot too, and it also gets credit for being the only TOS ship that was anything other than "not quite as ugly as the first one" at best.

I have a soft spot for the K'tinga and/or the D7, a stripped down, no frills, oversized fighter.

The Excelsior always seemed fat and unnecessarily large ... ponderous. The reason for her greater size has never been made clear, she seems no more capable than the smaller Connies / Enterprise Refit. During the battle of Khitomer she brought nothing extra to the table that I saw. Perhaps her magazines were bigger.

But where are the two girls?

:)

The Excelsior has 4 more phaser turrets on the saucer (in 2 pairs), and split forward torpedo tubes so it's less likely for a single hit to damage both tubes. Excelsior also has rear torpedo tubes, which the Constitutions didn't have.

It's too bad the only Excelsior battle on screen is the Lakota vs. Defiant.

Seriously, I've always had a soft spot for the Miranda and Nebula classes. I guess they're part of the same evolutionary track.

The TOS Enterprise and the original Klingon cruiser. Simple, clean, classic and perfect.

To me, the Excelsior looks like a dachshund and the Enterprise-E (Sovereign-class) looks like a Connie that got stepped on. It also has way too much fussy detail.

Well, tough one. Here are my choices.
1. D'Deridex Warbird (see my avatar). Just the sexiest ship ever. Predatory, sleek, and elegant.
2. Constitution Refit. Classic styling at its best.
3. Cardassian Galor class. Nice lines, it has some panache to it. Its also very unique, it stands out and has a truly distinct quality to it.
4. Klingon K't'inga. Its got the classic styling, but has better details.

Hmm... these "favorite ship" threads seems to just crop up every now and again. But no matter; I am ready with pics!

I disagree strongly (on both your likes and dislikes), but I have to give you credit on the part in bold. Made me lol.

As for myself (these are all tied; I can't pick just one!):

Akira

Galaxy

Defiant

(Non-canon) Diligent

(Also non-canon) Eximius - I STILL wish someone would make a nice, high-quality render (along the lines of rest of my pics above) of this class... but shots from the game it came from (Bridge Commander) will have to do.

And to me, the TOS Enterprise is painfully dated detail-less dreck with bloated, hideous proportions that could only look better if stepped on (and should be hauled away as garbage).

It IS an amusing way to put it, though.

My favorite is the Enterprise-D. Its smooth lines and bold, powerful proportions showed a ship that was sleek, and an instrument of exploration, but tough and powerful enough to take on the best. Its bold looks told us that in the future, technology had progressed so far, that there could be a sort of art to the design of a craft - technology had become unbound. And hey, TNG was my first Star Trek, and its the Enterprise that I grew up on.

I was a little kid when First Contact came out, and I thought the Enterprise-E was the coolest Enterprise yet, but as time has gone on, I've found myself feeling rather cold about it.
