Favorite series/season finale

Well it seems like a simple enough question to me :p As for myself, best series finale goes to Babylon 5's awesome Sleeping in Light :)

For season finale, I would have to say my favorite was TNG's Best of Both Worlds

season finale: TNG's "The Best of Both Worlds"--Nothing will ever beat it. close contenders DS9's "Call to Arms" and LOST's "There's No Place Like Home".

series finale: TNG's "All Good Things..." followed by DS9's "What You Leave Behind". BSG's "Daybreak" was also a great finale. We'll see what LOST comes up with but I have very, very high hopes. The X-Files finale sucked.

Season finale:
A tie between TNG's "The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1" and Babylon 5's "Z'ha'dum". Closest rival would be B5's season1 finale, "Chrysalis". In each of these you had consequences of unimaginable impact upon the rest of the series. Story and cast... any way you turned ... nothing would be the same anymore.

Series finale:
Babylon 5's "Sleeping in Light". Exactly what it had to be, a farewell by the series creator to the series and fans, and a chance for the fans themselves to say goodbye. A fond remembrance of how much each of the characters had changed of the course of the story.

Closest competition was TNG's "All Good Things". A clever storyline, some well-placed jabs at the series' cliches ("Data and his witless pursuit to become human" (sic) ), and a sweet ending of the sophisticated Picard and a powerful realization.

Series Finale

TNG's All Good Things, with B5's Sleeping in Light coming in a close second

Season Finale

Farscape's Die Me, Dichotomy. They killed Aeryn and even though I figured she was coming back, it was still a hell of an ending.

I won't be able to narrow it down to just one for either category, but I can definitely list my all-time favorites.

Series Finale

My three favorites each perfectly embody what their shows were all about:

TNG "All Good Things"
B5 "Sleeping in Light"
BSG "Daybreak"

Season Finale

Lost "The Incident"
Lost "Through the Looking Glass"
B5 "Z'ha'dum"
TNG "The Best of Both Worlds"
BSG "Crossroads"

And if I can label the lame 2.0/2.5 and 4.0/4.5 scheme that SciFi (SyFy) pulled on BSG as separate seasons, I have to include in "Pegasus" and "Revelations." The BSG writers were masters of the cliffhanger.

Babylon 5 : Season 3 finale - "Z'hadum" , Season 5 Finale - "Sleeping in Light"
Farscape : Season 2 finale - "Die me Dictahomy" , Season 3 Finale - "Dog With Two Bones" plus "Farscape : Peacekeeper Wars" finale

Star Trek TNG "Best of Both Worlds" , "All Good Things"

Series finale:

Babylon 5: Sleeping in Light. This one was sad and beautiful and it made the series feel truly complete. It was absolutely the right way to go. I could go on, but really, you need to watch the whole series and then watch this one.

Runners-up would be TNG's All Good Things..., definitely the best Trek finale, and Blackadder's Goodbyeee...

Season finale:

Babylon 5: Chrysalis. Not necessarily better than The Fall of Night or Z'ha'dum (which are also among my favourites, but I won't harp on about this show), but it was the moment where B5 became a truly great show and for me it was a big moment.

Deep Space Nine: Call To Arms. The start of the Dominion War may well be its best moment (though Tacking into the Wind gives stiff competition) and overall this may be the boldest plot development DS9 ever did. They're off the station now, ladies and gentlemen!

Voyager: Equinox, Part I. I'm not a big Voyager fan, so I was shocked by how good this episode was.

BtVS "Chosen", a triumphant crescendo for everything the series had been working towards since its inception. The only thing missing was Tara.

Great Season Finales:
BSG - "Kobol's Last Gleaming, part 2", "Crossroads, part 2"
Buffy the Vampire Slayer - "Becoming, part 2", "Restless", "The Gift"
Lost - "Through the Looking Glass", "There's No Place Like Home", "The Incident"
ST: TNG - "The Best of Both Worlds, part 1"
ST: DS9 - "Call to Arms"

Great Series Finales:
Angel - "Not Fade Away"
ST: TNG - "All Good Things..."
ST: DS9 - "What You Leave Behind"

Season finales:
"Terminal" - Blakes 7, season 3
"Z'ha'dum" - Babylon 5, season 3
"Die Me, Dichotomy" - Farscape, season 2
"The Best of Both Worlds" - TNG, season 3

Series finales:
"Blake" (Blakes 7) and "Sleeping in Light" (Babylon 5) tower over all other SF finales, IMHO. (The only better series finale I've seen is Six Feet Under's "Everyone's Waiting".) I can but hope that Lost will provide something to compete with them.

Sleeping in Light: A very bittersweet ending, but very beautiful, moving and true to life. Probably the most rawly emotional series ender out there.

Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars: A stunning, heroic send off for the show. It tied up all the loose ends, gave the fans what they wanted and pleased to the end.

Jericho: Patriots and Tyrants: A really cool series finale with good character moments and thrilling action. Easily in my top five finale list.

Series Finale: B5's "Sleeping in Light"
Season Finale that ended up being a Series Finale: Jeremiah season 2: "Interregnum Part 2" Depending on whether MGM/Showtime had continued it, it could have been a cliffhanger or a pretty satisfactory series ender.

BTW, for USians who've been waiting for the Jeremiah Season 2 DVD, Amazon has it listed as an on-demand title due out next month.

Season finale: Two-way tie between Battlestar Galactica's second season finale "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II" and Lost's third season finale "Through the Looking Glass". Without spoiling anything, I say these two because of the way in which both episodes totally changed the landscape of both shows in completely unexpected ways with reverberations that echoed through the rest of the show's runs.

Series finale: I love Babylon 5 "Sleeping in Light" but TNG's "All Good Things..." is my favorite...I adore the episode because it's such a great encapsulation of the best of TNG.

The Next Generation's "The Best of Both Worlds" is obviously a contender for best season finale of all time. That was just incredible on so many different levels. It was pretty much the instigator for all future season finales to come.

TNG also has the added advantage of having one of the best series finales of all time with "All Good Things". One of my favorite TNG episodes.

Angel's "Not Fade Away" is also one of my most favorite series finales of all time as well. Just perfect on so many levels, especially since I usually find series finales to be somewhat disappointing and lackluster since they try so hard to be special and unique but for some reason "Not Fade Away" managed to not be overly operatic but still have a heightened sense of awareness that was fitting.

Season Finale: "Z'ha'dum" - Babylon 5, season 3
Best of Both Worlds- TNG
Through the Looking Glass-Lost

Series Finale:

Sleeping In Light
then All Good Things, What You Leave Behind and the finale to Quantum Leap-Mirror Image.
I know many disliked it but as an avid fan it left me with a wee bit of moisture leaking from my eyes...

special mention to The Peacekeeper Wars, Jeremiah's finale, the finale to Journeyman, Patriots and Tyrants-Jericho, and a very special mention to The Maxx final episode. Run during the 90s on MTV Oddities, The Maxx started in a strange place, went to stranger places still over the course of the mini-series and then finished in a way that could only be described as beautiful.

Season finales: DS9's Call to Arms, Farscape's Die Me, Dichotomy, BSG's Crossroads Pt II, and all of Lost's except Live Together, Die Alone, which wasn't up to the level of the others. (I'm not sure which is the best season finale they've done so far - S3 (Through the Looking Glass) or S4 (There's No Place Like Home) - someday I'll have to do a direct comparison.)

Series finale: B5's Sleeping in the Light so far, with DS9's WYLB and Farscape's Peacekeeper Wars as runners-up. I expect Lost to blow this category away.

I guess "All Good Things..." is the runaway winner here for Series Finale here.

For Season Finale, I have to go with Kobol's Last Gleaming 1&2. I believe at the time that BSG was shown first in the UK, and it was primarily because people online were going absolutely berserk about these episodes that I ended up being a BSG viewer in the first place. I had missed the mini in first run and ended up giving it a shot when it was reshown largely because of the extreme Kobol's Last Gleaming online buzz.

Series Finale: BSG's "Daybreak". It exceded my expectations and for me, nothing else compares. Aside from fleshing out a few plot points, I have no idea how this one could have been improved or what would have been a better alternative.

Season Finale: TNG's "Redemption". I think this is one of the most underrated cliffhangers out there. Seeing a romulan who looked like Tasha Yar was a huge surprise. I didn't see "The Best of Both Worlds" when it first aired, so it didn't make the same impression on me as it did others.
