Alright, Sci Fi in particular is not too well known for it's use of "Actual Scientific Fact". As a matter of fact, that's actually one of the reasons we call it "Science Fiction." Like this movie or hate it, or even just appreciate it, this movie is full of hilarious moments where they throw SCIENCE at you...


You know, where you just have to accept that that's how things work, even when we all know it's totally frickin' impossible.

And please, no "Explanations". That ruins the fun.


I'm going to place my vote for Kirk and Sulu's massive fall.

That's what makes it so great. Even the name is pure genius!

This is NOT an explanation, but that's incorrect.

Red matter floats around in the galaxy rather commonly, and as long as it's cold and not hit by a super nova or hot star, nothing happens.

The idea is, though, that it's conveniently made up scientific facts, misrepresentations of science and fact, ect....


Red Matter is used as a hilariously over the top plot device in this movie.

Favorite sciene acknowledgements:

- The fact that when the Kelvin had a hole punched through it, the air rushed out into the Vacuum, the poor female crewman was ejected, and it was utter silence with the chaos going on as she bounced off of the phaser turret.

- When Captain Robau's shuttle leaves the Kelvin, the glittering rubble floating weightlessly near the Kelvin.

- The Silence of the Spacedive sequence, with the steady increase of wind and sonic boom as they entered Vulcan's atmosphere.

- The countdown to coming out of warp, indicating that timing was used as part of the calculations as to when to come out of warp. No "Take Us Out Of Warp" order, and the ship happens to be in the right spot, but a countdown until the ship comes out of warp automatically, so there is less probability of overshooting/undershooting the target by a few lightyears.
