Favorite original characters from Trek novels.

Credit where it's due, I did not create Jurva. She originally appeared in the IDW miniseries Blood Will Tell by Scott & David Tipton and David Messina as part of Kang's crew. But I enjoyed the hell out of writing her as she is, as you say, quite magnificent.

It took me a while to find a good actress to imagine for Vale, but I eventually realized that Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) is a good match for how I imagined the character.

It took me a while to find a good actress to imagine for Vale, but I eventually realized that Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) is a good match for how I imagined the character.

Amanda Tapping has been my pick for Vale for a while now.

For me, I think some of my favorite lit-only characters are Commodore Diego Reyes, Captain Rana Desai, and Lieutenant Commander Holly Moyer (Star Trek: Vanguard), Commander Mahmud al-Khalid (Star Trek: SCE), Leader/QaS DevwI' Wol (Star Trek: Klingon Empire), and almost every character in Star Trek: DTI (including Dulmur and Lucsly, although as those two appeared on DS9, they don't count for this particular discussion). The one character I'd like to see more of is Captain Mosh zelev Sereb, the undefeated Tellarite JAG who prosecuted Commodore Reyes in Open Secrets.
