I only included the movies that actually had opening credits, rather than just the title.

I chose The Wrath of Khan because it made you feel like the movie you are about to see is going to be big and dramatic.

Definitely TFF.

Fade to white off a laughing Sybok, travel through the stars to the classic Goldsmith theme from TMP, and then the beauty and magnificence of Yosemite to the fantastically grand "The Mountain" theme.

My second favorite is TSFS...from Genesis ground zero, through the clouds, and into space. Very cool.

Undiscovered Country. I love the score and the subtly changing colors of the credits, and then the Praxis explosion at the end plunges you right into the story.

I voted visually, and TFF is one of the few that's not just a star field and pretty music.

Though prefer Horner's score for TWOK, TUC had a great and arguably better opening theme and credits - edgy, setting up premise this might be different to preceding Trek films...

Had to go with V for the reasons previously stated by others. Like Insurrection, whatever else you can say about the films, those openings were very well shot and cinematic, whether a field of holes or bread dough hitting.
Generations overall was very cinematic, and it's theme excellent, so those three would fight for my top spot, with an honourable mention to TMP for its Ilia overture opening. Old school as heck, but that was an artists film.

The Voyage Home. Immediately as soon as I heard the music and saw the credits for that film; it jiggled light-hearted for me. Expressing the whole theme of the movie which was a great departure from all the epic fights and a boring previous film The Search for Spock. I remember listening to someone who wished James Horner's music was composed for the film to complete the trilogy, but I argued his "Hornblower" type style would not have matched the overall mode of the story and the picture. TVH just didn't require a march to start the opening credits.

II and V were great and FC also very nice but I think VI was the best, expressing very well that it would be a different, more epic, climactic movie while still being in the spirit of the others.

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home!

What beautiful motivational music, similar to music played at a sportscast. It can also count as a perfect example of classical music. And I know how when people think of classical music, they always think of the same half a dozen symphonies when there is actually much more not classical music recognized. (thus creating the radio show "And Seldom Is Heard") and the theme for Star Trek IV is so good that even people who hate Classical music would probably like the theme to Star Trek IV.

Star Trek VI is second and I realize that this poll is about the entire sequence, not just the music. I never not iced the colour change of Star Trek VI. They should have kept it going with other Star Trek films and series.

Star Trek I and II tie for third. I love the music for Star Trek II. I also love the fact there is an OVERTURE for Star Trek I! However, I am otherwise disappointed with the opening sequence for Star Trek I. It is very extremely cheap looking compared to the high quality of the rest of the film. But I really like the new font that they introduced.

Generations. The eerie nexus music, combined with the approaching, spinning object (each time I watch it, I get that "What on Earth am I looking at?" feeling), create a great sense of mystery and intrigue. At least for the next 20 minutes, the film lives up to that.

My personal favourite opening credit sequence is for STAR TREK III. The beautiful, lush vegetation, the endless, heavenly clouds, the white light transitions, until we see the Enterprise limping across the screen ... and into our hearts. I love that. Anytime, actually, the movies got away from that damned starfield overlaid with endless, boring credits was good for me. It's been a while, actually, since I've viewed INSURRECTION, but I'm pretty sure the credits overlap a planet scene with the Slice of Life moments of highly photogenic people. Again, just get away from the pointless laundry list of credits against nothing, alright? I'm a paying customer, here, I don't want to look at this boring shite.

I had to vote for The Voyage Home. Bad film with some good lines, but the opening was more engaging than the others. The space slowly changed colors and developed and Rosenman's score excitedly worked it's way to a grand finale as the probe came out.

TMP
Boring opening (great music; I'm counting the overture as the opening credits)

TWoK
Fantastic music, but just outerspace.

TFF
Same thing: another star field. Though the second half, if you count it as still part of the opening credits (the music continues though), is different.

TUC
More stars. The credits finish, then something happens.

Generations
Glorified wine bottle. I appreciate it, but it was novel the first time I saw it only.

First Contact
Though I think the blurry text phase out and music creates a wonderful combination, it's still not that engaging.

Insurrection
Something different, but there was no heart in it, just somebody trying to make us feel it.

I love ST2. That blue font is sooooo 80s. Also the best animated starfield up until then.

I like First Contatct very much. I remember how that zoom out form Picards pupil through the entire Borg vessel was incredible to see at the theater. But my 42' TV doesnt give the same impact.

Which one of TNG movies had an eye-hurting, out-of-focus credit text coming slowly to focus but not before the next set of letters appear also out of focus? that was terrible
