Favorite one-off women characters?

"Archon" has been the name of a high office in many Earth societies, so it's not surprising that the writers happened to reach for it twice. Or, if you prefer, that the universal translator would use it for two different civilizations.

I agree, Grilke was magnificent, though not a one-off. Mary Kay Adams commented: "Star Trek is fabulous because it's the closest thing to playing classical theater. It's very archetypal, very Shakespearean in its scope. All the aliens are of heroic proportions..."

Sakonna was a fascinating character too. I liked how Quark actually points out the logic of a peace treaty rather than the weapons she purchased. Sakonna didn't seem to have the same super-abilities as most Vulcans; she failed to mind meld with Dukat, she gets knocked down a couple of times, and never pulls a Vulcan nerve pinch.

Actually, Sakonna did use the nerve pinch. In Part 1 of the two Part episode the Maquis, she used it on the guard who was guarding the quarters of Dukat on the station. As the guard was being confronted by the Maquis guard dressed in Star Fleet uniform, informing him that he was being relieved of duty after just beginning his duty stint, Sakonna comes up behind him to his right and nerve pinched him, subduing him. She and the Maquis guard then informed Dukat at the behest of Sisko that he's being escorted to Air Lock 11 due to a bomb scare.

Regarding mind melds, I've only seen it fail twice......once with Dukat, who apparently was mentally strong enough with discipline to resist such in the Maquis two-parter and the other was Tuvock with Kes, when Kes was expanding in consciousness beyond Voyager, causing numerous explosions and computer malfunctions on the ship, which was her exit point from the series as a regular cast member. Yet, Spock used it successfully numerous times in TOS w/o failure and Tuvock did so I think twice, once to clear Tom Paris of a murder charge and the other to meld telepathically with Species 8472, tho' the latter initiated the contact. So, mind melds work at times but at other times they are ineffective.

You're right, I rewatched the scene.....the nerve pinch goes by fast. Sakonna does get knocked down in the next scuffle though.

[note - I changed my username ....signed up years ago before I really got into DS9. Liked Vash in TNG "Captain's Holiday" but not in the other 2 episodes.]

Wait.. no one said Aluura yet?! She is the Dabo girl played by Symba Smith in that episode where Quark becomes a women to impress the Slug-o-cola owner.

She was in "PROFIT AND LACE".

DS9 is my favorite the franchise, and I can defend any episode of the franchise to exist, with VERY few exceptions.

That episode is one of them.

Have to agree, that episode is the worst. Symba Smith came across as innocent and charming, but Aluura was a sexist's dream girl-- hardly a character, just a plot device.
