Favorite Moment in Trek History

Kilana2

Vice Admiral

What was your favorite moment in Trek History? Or maybe there are several favorite moments?

Moments that made you laugh, cry or both.

Was it Spock sacrificing his live during the Wrath of Khan? Certainly one of the biggest Trek moments, but there are many other small moments full of memories.

Every time I watch Voyager - Endgame I'm moved when Voyager returns to the AQ, much to the surprise of Admiral Paris and Reg Barclay.

Another big moment for me: Kirk saving the Federation President in TUC from the assassin. Not to mention Valeris's forced mind-meld.

Kira and Tekeny Ghemor in Ties of Blood and Water. Or Jake Sisko in The Visitor.

There are so many more big moments. What is your favorite moment?

In a parallel dimension, everyone would say "the scene involving the salamanders", but not in this one...

Gotta admit, even though it was obvious less than halfway into the episode, still seeing Picard as Locutus sent an entertaining chill down the spine. It's not the best parallel, but we all know Wile E Coyote runs off a cliff and goes "Wheeeeeeee!" but we laugh anyway because it all still holds together. It's about time sci-fi really took the extra step in assimilation as such and they hit it out of the park (yay!).

Seven plugs herself in and becomes Queen of the Borg Cube in Picard.

Picard's talk with Data in the "afterlife" in Picard.

Spock's chess game with Michael in Discovery.

Pike's flashforward and reaction to it in Discovery.

Spock's "Live long and prosper" to the Vulcan elders in ST'09.

Old Spock telling his younger counterpart, "Put aside logic, do what feels right" in ST'09.

And probably too many more to count.

For me, it was when I first stepped into the theater for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The excitement...the expectations.

1979 was THE year of space movies.

Only three years earlier, there was Logan’s Run. In 1976, I was about to turn 10 when the Bicentennial was celebrated. Apart from a too brief shot of the sailing ships, the celebrations were played down...Vietnam’s failure fresh in people’s minds. Many thought America’s best days were behind it. I had seen every Trek episode—there was no Star Wars....no shuttle...and the Saturns were dead.

My maternal grandmother was also newly dead, and frequent trips to extended family started to dwindle. My Mom told me I wasn’t a child anymore—to put away childish things.

I was probably close to doing that. Had there been no space movie resurgence—I probably would have been a “normal” kid, with an interest in cars and girls. I would have been a “mundane.” And probably better off than I am now.

But it was 1979 that I entered my second childhood, before ever really leaving my first.

Sisko punches Q. Hilarious!

Q materializing in Picard's bed. Great! Not to mention the Mariachi band celebrating a Q party. Magnificent!

The civil war in the Q-Continuum - Q wants Janeway as mother of his child. Outrageous!

Some of the best Q moments.

From "A Taste of Armageddon" "We are killers but we are not going to kill today."

Balance of Terror: Kirk and the Commander's exchange once the Romulan ship is defeated.

ST 09: Krik asking Spock Prime about his dad.

Into Darkness: Uhura taking on the Klingons.

In that book which is my memory,
On the first page of the chapter that is the day when I first met you,
Appear the words, ‘Here begins a new life’.”

"Risk is Our Business"
"We are not going to kill today."
"Starfleet was founded to seek out new life. Well THERE! IT! SITS!"
"There are four lights!"
"We're constantly searching, not just for answers to our questions, but for new questions."
"I created it, and it's real!"

Thinking of my favourite episodes, I'm struck by how well Trek does trial/legal drama type episodes. They're not really my thing outside of Trek, but Court Martial, Measure of a Man, Drumhead, Devils Due, Dax, Tribunal, Rules of Engagement, Death Wish, Veritas...I can't argue with the results.

The Drumhead. Picard quotes Satie's dad, she loses it... and the admiral leaves the room. He doesn't say anything. He doesn't have to.

The Inner Light. Back on the Enterprise, Picard takes out his flute and begins to play.

Janeway and Tuvok's goodbye in "Year of Hell 2".

Jake dies in Sisko's arms in "The Visitor".

Look man, lots of people hate this movie a LOT, but to me? it just doesn't get any better than....................

Row... Row... Row your boat

The Doctor's breakdown scene in Latent Image
The Pull-out shot in What You Leave Behind
Quinn's speech to Janeway in Deathwish
The final sequence of Enterprises in TATV

"Is there a Gene-Luck Pickard here?"

"It seems I've found myself on the voyage of the damned."

"In fact, you're the bravest man I've ever known." :(
