The all time winner for most replayed game for me. :D So far there have been six Mario Kart games released so far:

  1. Super Mario Kart – (Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), 1992)
  2. Mario Kart 64 – (Nintendo 64 (N64), 1996). Also available on Virtual Console, as of 2007.
  3. Mario Kart: Super Circuit – (Game Boy Advance (GBA), 2001)
  4. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! – (Nintendo GameCube (GCN), 2003)
  5. Mario Kart DS – (Nintendo DS, 2005)
  6. Mario Kart Wii – (Wii, 2008)
What's your favorite?

I only haven't played SNES or GBA. To this day I still love playing 64, it handles just perfectly even by modern day standards and it's just so much fun. GC is excellent with duel racer variety and weapons and great courses but I do miss dragging items from 64. DS is a great combination of GC and 64 (you can drag items!). Wii I just hate. The controls are crap, only a few of the levels are interesting, and it's back to a single person. But mainly it's the controls being crap. :p

So I would say GC and 64 are tied for first with DS close behind.

I'd say DS is my favorite. The gameplay is pretty similar to 64, but it also has the virtue of being able to play it practically anywhere. A lot of the tracks are great as well.

I didn't have a problem with Wii's controls. I had a problem with the poor balance. You can race perfectly and still come in last because you got blue shelled, lightning'd, POWed, run over, and knocked off the track all within ten seconds 50 feet from the finish line. You can race shitty and still come in first by getting shells, lightning, and bullet bills. Mario Kart Wii is less a racing game than it is a gambling game.

64. It was perfect all around. The GC version never did anything for me. They didn't really seem to improve on the gameplay and I felt the two-player kart was kinda useless.

Wii is neat, but I haven't played it enough to form a good opinion. One think I can see happening (at least for me) is that using the WiiMote as a steering wheel would get tiring on my arms and, oddly enough for a racing game, feel akward when using.

I voted for Wii and SNES just because the poll let me :), but overall I'd have to say Wii. The online gameplay is really good, the innie drift bikes handle well, but they really break your brain as far as playing typical mario kart drift vehicles. The drift boost mechanics are the best, and the controls are great if you stick with nunchuck/wiimote combo, not the retarded wheel thing.

I voted for DS for its combination of old and new tracks and its great control. Really, all of them are fun multiplayer experiences.

DS. I loved the SNES version, didn't really think the N64 version was that great, and I haven't played the GC or Wii versions, so I don't have much to compare it to. :)

I just like the DS version for its combination of tracks and features. The original tracks are really good, in my opinion, and the "ported" tracks were, for the most part, faithfully done.

And the remake of "Rainbow Road" is just awesome, though somehow not as hard as the SNES version.

Mario Kart 64 for me. Sure the game cheated like a motherfucker and was communist because it let players come back from any deficit by giving them a good item. But it was the perfect multiplayer game for everyone (Goldeneye was close, but I found girls didn't want to play it as much).

The original is cool, but I only played it once back in the day. Never played Double dash. The new one is OK if you use a GCN controller, but the wiimote is awkward and puts you at a disadvantage.

Somehow when I read the title of the thread I was thinking the poll was about which kart within the game was our favorite!

Having played 'em all, I can easily state that the N64 version is the best edition of this series. Everything about this game was just about perfect.

Daisy on the Mach Bike, MT. If you don't use Mach Bike, Flame Runner (Bowser Bike) or Bullet Bike, chances are you're a n00b:guffaw:

64 version here for me.

Back in my third year of university (only two years ago), it was the game of choice on our floor in residence. The fights over who got Yoshi were the things legends were made of.

For all the crap the N64 got for killing Nintendo with a bunch of overpriced kiddy games, I don't remember putting more hours with my friends on games than we did with GoldenEye, Mario Kart, one of the wrestling games, etc.

Mario Kart 64 was the ultimate multiplayer game -- taking a chance on the jump to start off Rainbow Road, waiting for someone to go over the big jump on Wario Stadium to use the lightning or attempt to jump the wall on before the last turn (jumping the wall to start the game was considered a cheap move), even the vs. mode made more sense than the stupidity that was Double Dash or what passes off for vs. mode on Kart Wii.
