According to the episode it was a time chamber!!!! Not sure if that meant it could travel in time or that it could send people into the future or past only that perhaps Lazarus had changed it's function to reach another opposite universe instead perhaps!

Alien Doctor : “Congratulations, Mr. Zygyzz, your wife just delivered a plastic brain.”

I think the implication is supposedly that they developed no need of bodies, as all their pursuits were intellectual (gambling on the fights). Was this supposed to be a backhanded criticism of gambling addicts?

Depends on which Bible Lazarus you mean.

Lazarus, brother of Mary and Martha, died of an illness, but was raised from the dead after 4 days (John 11:1-44), later to eat a meal with Jesus (John 12:1-2). Interestingly, the chief priests plotted to kill him, his only crime being that he was proof of Jesus' ability to raise the dead. (John 12:9-11) It wasn't carried out, though, and many people who saw this miracle happen continued to speak of it (John 12:17)

The other Lazarus is a beggar who had sores all over his body. He is a character in Jesus' parable about the rich man going to hell and the poor man (Lazarus) going to Abraham's bosom (Paradise). The rich man asks Abraham to send Lazarus, who used to beg for scraps from his table, to bring him even a drop of water to cool his tongue. Abraham reminds him that he used to receive good things, while Lazarus received bad things, and now their roles are reversed, and he tells him that there's a wide gulf between their respective locations that none can cross. He asks that Lazarus then be sent to his father and brothers instead, but Abraham suggests they read the scriptures. The rich man believes they will repent if a dead man comes to them, but Abraham says if they don't hear the words of Scripture (Moses and the prophets), they won't hear what a dead man has to say and take it to heart either. I think the one called "saint Lazarus" is the first one. That's the one I am referring to.
