CHRISTINE

Favorite Stephen King book, favorite John Carpenter movie. It starts with George Thorogood and involves an evil vindictive jealous car! Christine is KITT without the computers but with an awesome friggin' mean streak!

CHRISTINE

I have long searched for a girl with green eyes, and test samples of my blood with a heated segment of metal, but I always wear the glasses.

One of his lesser-known films that I really enjoyed was the 1978 TV movie, Someone's Watching Me! Very Hitchcockian.

Staying within the same topic, what did you all think of The Thing prequel? I didn't think it was that bad. I really liked the way it tied into Carpenter's.

Eh, I wanted to like it, but the CGI was terrible, they had to find a way to get young beautiful Americans into a Norwegian camp in the arctic. (i can't ever buy into the whole, your this hot 20 year old who happens to be an world class expert in "X".) Too much, "Look how 80's we are!" when it was really just a romanticized version of 80's fashion meant to appeal to the hipster crowd. The paranoia of the original film was non-existent in this one. The cast of the first film really sold it.

I liked it because it fit as a prequel to the 1982.:techman: The way the 2011 film ended with the beginning of the 1982 film was excellent. Now still set in '82, I would like to see a sequel to the 1982 film with Kurt Russell, Keith David and all the survivors of the 2011 film meeting up on their journey to the Russian camp base for rescue. A perfect trilogy.

I always jokingly said if a sequel was made, it should be called And Another Thing.

The Thing is his masterpiece, along with Hallowe'en and Assault.

But personal faves:
They Live
In The Mouth of Madness
Cigarette Burns

Ghosts of Mars has some fun moments too.

I also liked the Thing prequel.

Probably my least favorite is Christine. I just can't seem to enjoy it and I've tried to watch it multiple times.

'The Thing'. By a mile. No contest. Only 'Halloween' even comes close IMO.

In fairness, I haven't seen *all* of his films and some I've only seen bits and pieces. For instance, I couldn't sit through 'Ghosts of Mars' or 'Darkstar' (got bored) and I never did bother with 'Escape from LA' (looked crap.) Still, I'm pretty sure none of them would surpass 'The Thing' in my eyes.

The Thing. though Escape From New York and They Live are really great too. never really cared for Halloween to be honest.

 Good title: And Another Thing :techman:

"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubblegum."

Come on, how can you not love that?

Only one of his films I've ever seen is They Live, and I confess I didn't care for it much.

You should check out the other films scoring hits here, at least!

I've heard great praise for Assault on Precinct 13 (1976), but I've never seen it. I'm making that next on my list of Carpenter films to check out.
