I've been on a bit of a John Carpenter kick lately after purchasing many of his films on BLU-RAY, attempting to round out my collection. Carpenter was the directer in which I fell in love with movies. So many of his films feature iconic characters with so many memorable moments. Not to mention, unforgettable film scores also!

How about it? Have a favorite? Or favorites?

Me, I have to go with Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, and Escape from New York.

Halloween, of course, although I was sorely tempted to vote for Big Trouble in Little China.

Big Trouble in Little China is easily my favorite, though I enjoy many others. The Thing would probably be second on my list.

His Village of the Damned wasn't a very good movie, but it was filmed in the town I live in (as was The Fog), and I enjoy the original movie a lot, so I have something of a soft spot for it.

I like The Thing pretty well, but I have to go with Halloween. It was just a very entertaining film, with a cool villain and some great moments.

Even though I listed a few and the poll is just to pick one film, I'd go with Assault on Precinct 13. I've always liked anti-heroes; Napoleon "Gotta smoke" Wilson and such an AWESOME soundtrack.

The Thing. Technically, the best-made film he's ever done, IMHO.

Starman
, however, would be my sentimental pick.

+1 :)

I recently watched The Fog with my daughter (age 9). She wanted to watch something "spooky" on Halloween, and I hadn't seen it yet. I was pleased. The commentary is good, too.

He did really good work when he had no money to spend...

I can't pick just one. Can't do it. If I could pick two on the poll, I'd narrow it down to The Thing and Big Trouble. The Thing is one of my top films of all time, but I watch Big Trouble way more often.

Dark Star has always been one of my favorite movies. Strange, yet realistic. So that's my pick.

I didn't remember Big Trouble In Little China being one of his. Also on my DVD shelf.

But they're all good, the Escape movies, Starman.

1. Halloween
2. Big Trouble in Little China
3. The Thing
4. Dark Star
5. They Live
6. The Fog
7. Christine
8. Escape from New York
9. Starman
10. Escape from L.A.

Haven't seen the rest.

Halloween - brilliance on a budget, a lesson on the value of economy of image.

Recently, I watched Escape from L.A. for the first time in a long time. I have to say, this movie is often made out to be utter trash, but I don't think it's that bad. At times, it almost comes off as a kind of satire on 90s action movies. It's not anywhere close to New York, but I still think it's a fun movie.

THE THING, BIG TROUBLE in LITTLE CHINA, ESCAPE from L.A. and ... the rest are cool, with me. But these are my favourites.

Staying within the same topic, what did you all think of The Thing prequel? I didn't think it was that bad. I really liked the way it tied into Carpenter's.
