Favorite Higher Cable Channel Shows?

A spin-off of my "Bought an HD-TV: Waste of Money" thread ;)

Now that I've finally gotten digital cable I went from getting 80 channels to 250 or so. I can finally watch so many genre shows I've read about I've never seen. What are your favorite shows from this higher priced channels?

I have now finally seen an episode of "Wolverine and the X-Men". After the year or so of anticipation I wasn't really blown away. I saw one episode that apparently took place in a post-apocalyptic future about a pet Sentinel and another about Gambit trying to steal Magneto's helmet. They weren't bad but they weren't amazing either. Are they representative of the show's quality?

I can now finally see the second season of Spectacular Spider-Man. Just saw one so far but it was as good as I remember the first season.

I'm currently watching "Attack of the Show" for the first time in my life. I had no idea what this show was, I thought it was about video games, but so far it's about funny internet clips. Is that right? The show that was ending before it started "X-Play" appeared to be a straight out video game show. What do people think of these shows? Also I thought Olivia Munn was on AOTS but I guess she's left the show at this point? And is it always this 'unscripted'? There was a protracted sequence about the lady playing with her hair and interrupting the guy from doing the next bit :wtf:

If by 'higher priced' you mean premium, then I have none. I don't subscribe to any channels like HBO or Cinemax or anything like that. I have no programming 'tiers' at all, in fact. Can't afford 'em.

But if you just mean higher *numbered* networks like you get with digital? I'd have to say pretty much anything on MLB Network. That is far and away my favorite channel. I especially like Prime 9 (where they count down the top 9 of a certain thing - top 9 shortstops, first basemen, catchers, unbreakable records, etc.) and All-Time Games (they present classic baseball games of old, and some not so old).

And on a side note: if any mods are reading this and think I shouldn't be talking about baseball: I'm just answering a question. The OP asked me what my favorite shows from higher channels are. I gave the only answer I could give. I don't see what's wrong with that.

Dexter is the first and only series that ever induced me to get premium cable.

Which reminds me, the season is over. Time to cancel Showtime. :rommie:

The Higher Cable Channels that I watch, and why:

G4: Attack of the Show! really grows on you, and Ninja Warrior is pretty good, too.

G(ame)S(how)N(etwork): Lingo. Family Feud and Match Game reruns are good if nothing else is on.

Sleuth: repeats of Special Unit 2, repeats of Monk

BBC America: Doctor Who, and I used to watch Coupling, which was awesome but is gone now. And news from a different perspective than the American media outlets.

Azteca: No one in my house speaks Spanish, so I like to turn it there sometimes and see how long I can go before being forced to change it. Plus, I find the steady stream of a language I don't understand to be strangely relaxing - and at least one of the game shows is pretty cool whether I can understand it or not.

And of course, I also watch the HD versions of the channels I normally watch.

Doctor Who was a *major* reason for getting digital cable. I can actually see the episodes as they air!!! When do they start? On wiki I just says "Spring 2010".

^Well, not exactly "as they air". Britain gets them first and BBCA gets them a few months later usually. I don't think BBCA has given a release date for the new Doctor. They are showing repeats on saturdays usually.

I bet. I've seen the ladies on those shows....

BBC America-SURVIVORS starts this Sat.(yeah!), Primeval, Torchwood-all good excuses to watch. Disney Channel-good shows for the kid(Let's go do the Hotdog Dance!"). And, of course, primetime stuff in HD.

Can you buy a channel off and on like that without penalties?

Only premium, for-pay channels like Showtime, HBO, etc. If you're asking if you can say, "Man, I don't give a shit about Animal Planet, can I drop that and save two bucks a month," no, you can't.

You were probably getting it before, but how about Mythbusters?

I mostly have cable so that I can DVR my favorite network shows. That, and premium shows like Dexter and True Blood.

Cheating a bit with premium content but I've recently been hooked on reruns of "Have Gun With Travel" lately on Encore Western.
