Favorite Games of the Decade

Final Fantasy X-Without a doubt this is my favorite final fantasy and possibly my favorite JRPG of all time. its one of the few games that I make a point of playing through each year. Each time, it is just as fun and awesome as when i played it for the first time back in December 2001

Xenosaga trilogy- Okay, the second game sucked but the story line and universe created by these games is still in many ways unmatched by other RPGs out there

Metal Gear Solid 3- Out of all the metal gear solids this one had the most...sane...storyline. It was also the most fun as well, though this probably wouldn't have made my list if it wasnt for the re-release with better controls

Metal Gear Solid 4- Ties together the MGS story line and tosses in alot of easter eggs and nods to us long time fans.

Persona 3 and 4-Combined, I have spent over 200 hours each on both these games. That is more than I have spent with just about any other game except for FFX. Pretty impressive considering P3 came out in 07 and P4 just came out at the end of 08

Zelda Twilight Princes- Amazing art design, great story, and same awesome gameplay

KOTOR/Mass Effect/Jade Empire/Dragon Age- Bioware, I love you

Resident Evil 4- Took one of my favorite franchises of all time and revamped it. Amazing gameplay and tons of fun only to be topped by.....

Resident Evil 5- This game almost caused me and my roomate to fail a semester. Nothing is better than co-op with a buddy in the room with you

My top 10 Games from 2000-2009

Assassins Creed
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Call of Duty
Call of Duty 2

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Halo 3
Fallout 3
Final Fantasy VII:Crisis Core
Modern Warfare 2
Super Paper Mario
Bully:Scholarship Edition
Apollo Justice
Beyond Good & evil
Crimson Skies
Halo 2

Civ IV - with expansion packs
AOE III - with expansion packs
Dawn of Discovery (or Anno 1404)

Resident Evil 5- This game almost caused me and my roomate to fail a semester. Nothing is better than co-op with a buddy in the room with you

DLC packs in Feb then again in March. As far as I know, will contain whatever's going to be in the Gold Edition. So I'm pumped!

Unless it's more practical to just sell my current copy and rebuy the Gold Edition.

If we go based purely on play time, that would have to be Civ IV. I bought that game almost four years ago, and I still play it. It's just that good. It gets my game of the decade vote.

Multiplayer wise it's hard to beat Left 4 Dead. The teamwork required in that game on the higher difficulties is amazing.

Because I have played so many good games this past decade, I have a feeling I am going to forget some good ones when typing this list up. They are in no particular order.

Dues Ex
Mass Effect
The Witcher
Dragon Age: Origins
Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl
Silent Hill 2
Devil May Cry
Beyond Good and Evil
Fallout 3
Call of Duty
Rome Total War
Sins of a Solar Empire
Tribes 2
Battlefield 2
Battlefield 1942
Team Fortress 2
Diablo 2

If I did that, it would be WoW. I've spent 10% of my total time last year playing it. It's a scary thought.

Hmm, I wish you hadn't said that ...come to think of it, my /played is pretty close to the 10% mark too, and that's not counting alts. Maybe I was AFK for half of it or something. Yeah, that's the ticket. ;)

It is hard to believe that some of these games were from the last decade. I must be getting old. :(

Jedi Outcast
Warcraft 3
Zelda Twilight Princess
Kingdom Hearts I and II
Pikmin
Metroid Prime series
Ratchet and Clank (I'll say the series, though I haven't played all of them)
Zelda Wind Waker
Mario Kart Double Dash
Zelda Phantom Hourglass
Lego Star Wars I and II
NHL '09 - I havent played '10 yet, but '09 was a huge step up from '98, which was the last one I'd played.
WoW

My other favourite game of the decade has been Kingdom of Loathing. Funniest browser-based MMORPG ever. :bolian:

Resident Evil 4
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3
Okami
Ico
Shadow of the Colossus
Psychonauts
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Tomb Raider Legend
Disgaea
Beyond Good and Evil
Final Fantasy X
Silent Hill 2 and 3
Gregory Horror Show

The last one is what I'd call a personal favourite. I'm not claiming it's anything like the best game of the decade, but it's a quirky game which I love.

Gamasutra's list:

1. World of Warcraft
2. Deus Ex
3. Half-Life 2
4. Shadow of the Colossus
5. Grand Theft Auto III
6. Halo
7. Portal
8. Super Mario Galaxy
9. Mass Effect
10. Metroid Prime
11. The Sims
12. Wii Sports

Worth a read.
