Favorite Games of the Decade

Yes, for the sake of the thread we're talking 2000-2009

For me, just off the top of my head

In no particular order:

Half Life 2
Diablo 2
Wind Waker
Kotor
Resident Evil 4
Bioshock
Assassin's Creed 1/2
MW 1/2

I could go on, but that's what I'm listing for now.

What do you got?

Good question. There have been a lot of games in the 2000s that I've really enjoyed.

Conquest: Frontier Wars - Great space strategy game. You fight across several maps connected by wormholes. Made supplies to your ships a factor, had great voice acting and a stock standard story but it was well done. Probably the game I'm the most disappointed didn't get a sequel.

Galactic Civilisations II - MoO2 who? I the first game after I wasted my money on the terrible (imo) MoO3. GC2 built on the first and is a fantastic game.

Sins of a Solar Empire - This is basically a much prettier version of Conquest: FW. Only thing it lacks is a story driven campaign

Knights of the Old Republic - It was the first RPG I played all the way through. Great story and had the feel of Star Wars. Sad not to see a KOTOR3 but a MMO instead.

Dawn of War - The game got me interested in the WH40K universe.

Battlefield 1941/BF2 - Might not have the looks of the latest CoD games but I have many good memories of playing these games over LAN with mates.

Company of Heroes - Added some great stuff to strategy games when it came out. It also looks great. Love that shells can bounce off a tank's armour instead of the standard everything hits and explodes no matter what.

The GTA series - Where else can you rape, murder, screw hookers, blow stuff up and score points doing it?

Star Trek Bridge Commander - Still play it thanks to a huge modding community

Deus Ex - Great story, one of my favorite games

Soldier of Fortune - Dismemberable body parts anyone?

Half Life 2

Bonus Category: Worst Star Trek game ever produced.
I can't pick just one: Hidden Evil, Legacy, and Starship Creator all suck to various degrees. Why is it so damn hard to make a good Trek game?

I'm mostly a pc gamer, but here's what I have on my repeated play list

Half Life 2
Mass Effect
Dragon Age
Call of Duty (all)

I also enjoy playing SWAT4, Left 4 Dead and various versions of Unreal Tournament (2003/2004 and 3 for this list)

It's still Deus Ex. :bolian:

But I've also enjoyed Civ4 (to satisfy my Civ needs) and X3: Reunion (for me the best of the X Universe games) and many of the GTA games.

The Halo Series. Knights of the Old Republic. Star Wars Battlefront. Mario Kart. Zelda Windwaker. Final Fantasy 12. Crackdown. X-Men Legends/Marvel Alliance.

Halo trilogy, HL2, KOTOR, Mass Effect, GTA3, CoD4, Forza Motorsports series, World of Warcraft

The GTA series. Well, III and beyond.

Halo 3.

Knights of the Old Republic.

Super Mario Galaxy.

Mass Effect.

Gears of War.

Mario Kart DS.

There are plenty of others that I liked, but these probably chewed up the most of my free time.

My favourite game in the past decade is Warcraft 3 roc. The game has a fair bit of depth, and it's quite an effort for me to learn how to play it well. That said, I don't really enjoy trying to play it well as it offers too little freedom.

One of the things I enjoy about the game is all the little characters one can get running around and building things and chopping at the trees. :)

Sometimes I will enjoy watching the top level matches, like those hosted on http://roc.replayers.com . 1-on-1 orcs vs elves often being my favourite pairing to watch.

I don't generally have a lot of interest in playing games.

My picks by release date:

Marvel vs Capcom 2 (April 2000)
Mario Kart Double Dash (Nov 2003)
Resident Evil 4 (Jan 2005)
X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse (Sept 2005)
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (March 2006)
Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core (May 2007)
Halo 3 (Sept 2007)
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Nov 2007)

Honorable Mentions:
Fable II (Oct 2008)
Halo 3: ODST (Sept 2009)
*Probably Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Nov 2009) but I haven't played this one yet.

My number 1 pick though is Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Dragon Age: Origins
Deus Ex (if 2000 counts as this decade)
Galactic Civilizations
Mafia
Football Manager 2007
Baldur's Gate 2
Civilization IV
Morrowind

Nowehere near as good as the 90s, though.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 (April 2000)

Damn, 10 years old this year and still my favorite fighting game.

I liked it best on Dreamcast, but it wasn't too bad on PS2. The DC's controller would hurt my hands after long sessions, so I favored the PS2's controller, but DC's graphics were far superior.

To this day, my friends know better than to ever accept a challenge to play against me.

Half Life 2
Mass Effect
KOTR
Deus Ex
Viewtiful Joe
Bioshock
Batman: AA
Mario Galaxy

That's for starters.

Civilization IV
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Zelda: Wind Waker
Zelda: Majora's Mask (that was 2000, right?)
Mario Galaxy
Final Fantasy X
GTA: San Andreas
World of Warcraft

That's off the top of my head. Civ IV is probably my overall favorite, since WoW is its own category, and the Zelda games are all really great but not endlessly re-playable like Civ is. FFX is one of the best from that series (I always name a city in any Civ game "Zanarkand") and San Andreas is the tops due to going nuts with a rocket launcher. And Mario Galaxy, of course, is just plain awesome.

Dead Space
Final Fantasy X
Gran Turismo 4
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots
Metroid Prime
Resident Evil 4
Super Mario Galaxy
Tekken 5
The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Wipeout HD

I've had more fun playing Uncharted 2 than I ever have any other game, at least as an adult anyway. I can still pick it up at any time and have fun playing a random level.

There are so many games my favourite but among them my favourite game of the decade are:
Super Mario Sunshine
New Super Mario Bros DS
Call Of Duty 4(Multi Platform)
Modern Warfare 2(Multi Platform)
Guitar Hero 3
Super Paper Mario

Call of Duty 4

Call of Duty: United Offensive

Quake 3 Arena

UT 2004

Quake 2

Star Trek: Voyager: Elite Force

Halo: Combat Evolved

Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast

Delta Force Xtreme 2

Return to Castle Wolfenstein

Though I have a PS2, I am more of a Mac user. I don't like Strategy games, and I don't like first person shooters. Thus my game list if very short.
Diablo 2 LOD
EV:N (Escape Velocity: Nova)

I seem to be addicted to Sim City though I can never get a city to do well even when I follow specific directions to the letter. At some point the direction say something like "your city is now a thriving metropolis". Some where around that point I uninstall the game and pronounce it pointless and wonder why I bought it in the first place! :)
