Favorite Game Replacement Music For Games

Ok, here's an odd one but are there games where you maybe don't like the soundtrack that comes with the game, so you turn the volume on you TV or game system down and then pop a CD into your CD player or stream a favorite album ,while you play the game?

For me, an example would be when I play Super Mario Bros. 3, instead of listening to the MIDI soundtrack, I'll pop in the Carpenters The Singles 1974-1978 CD and have that playing as the soundtrack to the game.

I used to turn the music down on Tetris (the original on PC) and play a tape or the radio. I've also used the mp3 player in Civilization before and turned the game music all the way down - but the player kinda sucked and it made the other game sounds hard to hear, so I didn't do that for long.

I still have several folders full of music I used to listen to while playing WoW.

Many of them are game soundtracks, come to think of it.

Quite often I'll listen to something educational or news related while playing something like MInecraft or Stardew Valley or if I'm playing something a little grindy.

In other cases I modded Skyrim for example to play Oblivion music instead because I think it's far superior which I know alot of people would disagree on me with.

Otherwise for Xbox for example they recently intergrated Spotify, so I can turn the music off on any game and just have spotify on in the background and you can adjust sound levels so it fits where you want which is pretty awesome.

I mean I love the Oblivion OST as well, but there is a thematic disconnect there, the Skyrim OST fit Skyrim as a region/culture very well I thought

of course, they were both inferior to the Morrowind OST that inspired them

The old Ridge Racer on the PSX loaded completely into memory and then only used the CD drive to play music so once it loaded it was possible to open the door and swap the game disc with a music disc of your choice. I'm trying to remember, it's been like 20 years now, but I think we used to throw in Van Halen and it matched up pretty well.
