Crew complement was about 1000, similar to the number of pupils at my high school. The deputy head knew everyone, and had the measure of the new first years within the first few weeks.
If only Picard were more like your Deputy Head.

In High School everyone is intermingled in different classes. It's a Principal's job to get to know all the students as best possible, On Ent, it would be a command Hierarchy. Picard mostly needs to know the senior staff, they in turn need to know their department heads, and so on.

kelvin timeline enterprise interiors. they're the most architecturally interesting sets (and locations) created for the franchise yet. except for those barcode scanners.

very curious what discovery is like.

I was going to vote but the list was incomplete...

NX.
The rest are too big

*sneaks away*
I was just going to say this. NX-01 is probably what I would've voted for and it's conspicuously absent from this list. Say what you will about ENT's writing and whatnot, but every single design decision on that show, from the uniforms to the sets, was gorgeous, imho.

I'll agree, except for the brewery. It just did not fit in with the rest of the ship.

Imagine if, instead of the matter/antimatter warp core that we are familiar with, that Enterprise-D were powered by a steam boiler, and the crew had to shovel coal into it. That is how out of place the brewery was on the JJprise, an otherwise pristine looking high-tech masterpiece of a ship.

A school might be a nice analogy, but I think a small town is a better one. If you lived in a town of just over 1000 people with no towns nearby within easy distance, you'll get to know all 1000 people quickly unless you are a recluse.

These people live on the ship 24/7 365. Except for shore leave or the lucky few that get to actually interact with the aliens of the week, the Enterprise D is their entire world.

i had difficulty with the brewery in the first film. by the time into darkness came around and they'd used the livermore lab for main engineering and still went to budweiser for other parts of engineering, i accepted it. i think it largely relies on your acceptance of the ship being so large as well, that the secondary hull is basically several large, open compartments full of complex machinery we don't know much about.

but let's talk about that water turbine in star trek 2009: i can accept that there are hydroelectric systems aboard the enterprise or some other system requiring the use of water, but i still have difficulty with the food processor blades and the conveniently located hatch just in case somebody gets stuck in there. that scene is easily the worst part of all 3 reboot films for me.

so add that to the list with the barcode scanners.

For me, nothing compares to the sleek aesthetic of the interiors of the refit Enterprise (TMP-TSFS). It looks futuristic and functional, but still comfortable enough. It is a good middle ground between the space and hotel-like design of the E-D and the cramped submarine style ship on ENT.

I think that is the best production design of the entire franchise (barring of course the original TOS sets which set the pattern for everything that followed.)

Dude, the Enterprise-D warp core is a pot bellied stove!
Wow, I never thought of that.

Well, maybe with the right captain, it wouldn't be that way on the Galaxy Class. Maybe Captain Varley.

Favorite design? I'm rather fond of the interior of the NX and Motion picture Enterprises but if i'm actually stuck on a ship in space then it's the D I want to be on.

Kind words fail me....

The Enterprise-D was luxuriously appointed, as every STAR TREK fan knows ... and its bridge was lavish, which I'd expect. I'm really quite fond of it. However my favourite interiors are to be found in STAR TREK: The Motion Picture. I love the lighting treatments, the colour schemes and displays of the refitted Enterprise. The bridge was fantastic, everything about it looked so right. When you see what the interior of The International Space Station looks like, it's rather disappointing, actually. I don't know what I'd expect, but they just look so utilitarian. Where's that International flavour ... flare ... and style? Perhaps this link will help NASA, ESA, JAXA and all the rest find some much-needed inspiration:

Yeah, it's like a cruise liner.

"Did he just compare the Enterprise to a cruise ship?" -Picard

You forgot the NX-01 in your poll.

And Generations was the Enterprise-B, not C. ;)

The actual Enterprise-C bridge from "Yesterday's Enterprise" was very underwhelming and way too "flat". It wasn't EPIC, like an Enterprise bridge should be. Just seemed cheap and cramped. Still, I suppose this could have been the Ent-Cs battle bridge...

I really like the ENT-C bridge for all those reasons. It's like Starfleet was going though a budget crunch and militaristic phase at the same time.

I wish this had been a public poll. I'm curious, who voted for TAS? I thought about it (but went with my first love, TOS), because it has some outstandingly cool elements, such as the warp nacelle interior and rec room, plus the bridge has a second exit which measurably improves the plausibility of that iconic set.

Maybe because the TAS set is supposed to represent the TOS set but with a few additions (like a second turboshaft)?

To be fair, we only actually see about half of the C's bridge. For all we know, the rest of it really could be as epic as an Enterprise should be.

For instance, Lt. Castillo is found under a smashed console. There's probably a lot of space between it and the viewscreen (which we never see), since it obviously wouldn't make sense to have a console directly in front of the screen.

In the end, though, it just looks like a battle bridge.
