I know this is the most basic thing to ask, but I've heard so many different opinions lately, on who is their favorite DSC character, so I want to know it for once.

After five episodes of ST: DSC - who is your favorite (major) character and why (please comment below)?
If you can't decide, you can also choose two.

For a start, I will say why I chose Stamets.
He is the character with the most backstory so far (invented spore drive along with his friend from the Glenn; is in a relationship), and he has shown more than two kinds of emotion (*coughs* Lorca) - and those things make him the most realistic and relatable character in my opinion.
And he's the only one I would be really sad about if he died, to be honest.

Lorca is my favorite, but that doesn't mean I really like the character in the same way I would some of my favorites from other series. There just hasn't been enough time yet to really get into any of these characters.

From the list, I like (or find interesting) Lorca, Stamets, Mudd and Tyler. The rest are just not interesting to me. The "main character" Burnham is a mess of contradictions and is poorly written. Saru might be interesting if his outward appearance wasn't so insanely stupid and horrendous looking . Tilly is a mess, but has potential. The rest are all forgettable. I already miss Landry because of all these forgettable characters.

It's also far to early in the show to be getting much emotional attachment to any of the characters. That comes with time and more episodes. In recent memory, there are only two TV shows since (about 2000 or so) that I felt something strong about the characters right from the get-go, and that's Orphan Black and nuBSG. Characters on TV generally need time for development from the writers. The wonderful relationship between Kirk, Spock and McCoy wasn't developed immediately, but over the course of the first season.

It would be interesting to compare the feelings we have right now about the characters, with how we feel about them after the first season is over. It could probably be very much different.

You love it, when your characters feel feelings?

I'd definitely enjoy a Lower Decks type episode that fleshes out some of the background/bridge crew characters, such as the Daft Punk Gallery

Stamets is easily the best character on the show, but I don't dislike any of them, except for Saru. I'm used to Tilly by now, and I though she was great in 1x05, but Saru... I just don't see how someone like Lorca would be able to tolerate a senior officer so petty and seemingly spineless. I wouldn't want someone like that on my ship.

When Saru ordered Stamets and Burnham to "re-hydrate" the tardigrade and put it back to work, I wanted to kill him.

okay I'm going to attempt an honest ranking as per the OP, it's a tough one for sure

the clear throughline for me so far is that the top 2 spots of my list are defined by a degree of mystery

as for Tilly, if you don't like her you're probably a bad person and I don't trust you
  1. Michael
  2. Lorca
  3. Tilly
  4. Stamets
  5. Culber
  6. Georgiou
  7. Mudd

I like the character of Lorca, however I think they have missed a trick not writing the character as Garth of Izar.
