Favorite "Discovery" character so far?

Exactly, this thread is pointless. No one has a favorite character yet, it's simply not possible when we don't know the characters. Not even Sarek counts because we don't know how he'll be portrayed, he could be the best thing about Discovery or the worst or probably something in between.

Sarek is an established character, we do know him. Unless this is a completely different new universe where he has nothing in common with any traits associated with the Sarek we know, even then, at the very least we know that he's a Vulcan, so for us to know nothing at all about him is to allow for a possibility that this show is set in a universe where everything we know about Vulcans and Sarek is nonexistent.

My favorite is Ensign Ricky. He was the third person in a landing party that also included Capt. Lorca and Lt. Cmdr Rainsford. Of the three, Ensign Ricky was the one in the red shirt.

I hope he's on the show every week.

Captain Georgiou because I love Michelle Yeoh and because she could be Greek (or Greek-Cypriot).

I think your confusion (exemplified by Dean Winchester) is that maybe it should have been said that Captain Georgiou might be a Greek-Asian, or maybe an Asian-descended person adopted by a Greek family -- or maybe she is just an old fashioned gal, and took the last name of her Greek husband.

Okay, when I read the post my first thought was that Captain of the USS Averof was saying she looked Greek.

A husband from Greece or adopted by a Greek family seem the most likely. A biological "western" parent would not fit. While diversty is great thing, I don't think there should be "racial blindness".

Isn't Lorca a Spanish surame?

As to the casting - while the American/Canadian actors may not be playing Americans or Canadians on the show but I think it would be could if the cast itself was more international. I'm calling for a recast recast or anything but I like the idea of a Star Trek crew that is truly multi-national.
