favorite CRIME DRAMA

My favorite crime drama, hands down, is HAWAII FIVE-0. Steve McGarrett was a cool cat, and I could never see ANYONE play that role besides him. Throw in some cool plots, an occaisonal WOFAT appearence, and not to mention TV's greatest opening credits, and you have what I think is the best CRIME DRAMA of all time...

HAWAII FIVE 0!!!

What is yours?

Rob

NAKED CITY. My DVDs, which I bought off the store shelves in the earlier part of the decade, are worth a fortune now, according to Amazon.

L&O during the Briscoe era. I'll watch those over and over. And I do.;)

Although I was a big fan of Rockford back in the day.

Season one of Michael Mann's CRIME STORY!!!! A show way ahead of it's time!

I agree, Hawaii Five-O totally rocks!

Does Magnum PI count? Definitely my all time favorite.

Of all time would be Dragnet TV or Radio format. Then Nash Bridges followed by Hawaii 5-0. which is aired on a local TV station early Sunday morning, Like 3 AM.

Favorite detective show: "The Rockford Files." "Magnum P.I." a close runner-up.

Favorite cop show: "Hill Street Blues." "The Wire" is probably better, but HSB has the edge because it broke so much ground.

I love "Five-O" but it makes me laugh sometimes. Did anyone but McGarrett ever have a good idea of how to solve a case?

I simply love love love Homicide: Life on the Street! It's not only one of the best police drama series I know, but one of the best series ever in my book. This series has it all: Great writing, intense dialog, stellar performances by an excellent cast, innovative cinematography, unbelievable editing, wonderful music and things like originality and style. Things many shows even today lack! I'm of the opinion that many of today's series owe a lot to what Homicide established.

But I'm also a sucker for the classic Law & Order. I love Sam Waterston and sorely miss Jerry Orbach's Briscoe. But overall I think this series has constantly been blessed with a great cast. Law & Order is thought-provoking, fast and intelligent. I'm glad the series is still running.

Best Overall: Homicide: Life on the Street

Most 'important', because it changed the definition and standards of the term 'crime drama' forever: Hill Street Blues

Favorite current show (w/new episodes still coming out): NCIS. I love this show.

Sentimental Favorite: The Rockford Files (I love James Garner and this is a great show which he's said in interviews he really enjoyed making)

I've only seen a few but my favorite is NYPD BLUE. It managed to be great drama and great comedy all in the same episode.

^I'd say so. The Wire is probably mine. Crime dramas as a whole don't make up much of my favorite TV in general, though.

Oh, and UK-wise, The Sweeney and Taggart when Taggart was still in it. (I can take episodes with Burke, but the period when Jardine was in charge were years in the wilderness...)

The Wire, easily. I liked what I've seen of Homicide: Life on the Street and have enjoyed Dexter, but neither come close to the work that David Simon and Ed Burns did. If you even want to call it a crime drama, since the series' principal focus is Baltimore, I think.

Law & Order. I absolutely love that show. Not so much the 1st 4 seasons with Ben Stone. But I'm a huge fan of Jack McCoy and I find Michael Cutter to be an acceptable substitute.

And while only some of her mysteries involved actual crimes, I'm a big fan of Veronica Mars.

I don't watch many crime drama shows (I'd say the genre I've spent the most time on is Sci-Fi/Fantasy -- shocking, right?), but I do rather like Law & Order, and its spin-offs too, occasionally.
