Favorite character in TV/ Movie character never to appear on screen.

Re: Favorite character in TV/ Movie character never to appear on scree

Lars, "in" The Mary Tyler Moore Show, added a lot to Cloris Leachman's character.

But I guess I'd have to go with Maris as the favorite.

Sheridan from Keeping Up Appearances.

Re: Favorite character in TV/ Movie character never to appear on scree

Meg in Family Guy.

I don't think we ever met any of Lenny Briscoe's ex-wives on Law & Order or John Munch's oft-complained-about ex-wives & girlfriends on Homicide: Life on the Street. However, we did finally meet Gwen Munch (John Munch's ex-wife who also, incidentally, slept with Lenny Briscoe) on a later episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Speaking of Homicide ex-wives, I don't think we ever saw the ex-wives of Giardello, Bolander, or Crosetti either.

We saw Billie Lou Munch throughout Season 7 and also in Homicide: The Movie.

Ah. I haven't gotten that far, actually. I finished Season 4 but and I own Seasons 6 & 7 but I can't find a local used store with a copy of Season 5.

Then don't say we never saw a character in a series if you haven't actually finished the series. Otherwise you're just talking out of an orifice not generally associated with speech. :p

Also Frank Burns' wife, Louise, was seen in season 3's "There Is Nothing Like a Nurse" (in a home movie). She was played by Jeanne Schulherr, who showed up later as a nurse.

I had totally forgotten that!

And another honorable mention to Mildred Potter, who was "played" by a photo of Harry Morgan's real-life wife and by Barbara Townsend in AfterMASH (which doesn't count :p).

For SO many reasons...:p

Yes indeed.

Not a family member, but "Captain Tuttle."

Ah, Captain Tuttle. I still miss Captain Tuttle... :p

Maris by far.
"Skinny" Mulligan (Who remembers him?)
Orson
The "White Zone" and "Red Zone" couple from Airplane!
Darth Plagueis

Four pages in and no mention of Robin Masters from Magnum PI? For shame!

I suppose he might be disallowed, if you buy into the theory that Higgins was actually Robin, but that was never proven!

Re: Favorite character in TV/ Movie character never to appear on scree

I've always adored the wonderful advice from Artemus Gordon's Great-Aunt Maude.
Was thinking about mentioning Artie's wise great-aunt, but I shouldn't be surprised to see you've beat me to it.

"Skinny" Mulligan (Who remembers him?)
Gilligan frequently alluded to things his friend Skinny Mulligan had said or done when they were growing up.

Well, there is that ( I personally liked the idea that Higgins did at least SOME ghost writing for Robin). Plus, we also saw him from behind, and saw the back of his head, his hands, etc. And, of course, we heard his voice--Orson Welles.

There's really none to beat Maris. And all the other great ones have really been mentioned already!

Re: Favorite character in TV/ Movie character never to appear on scree

^Uhh, yeah, but since he's the title character of the show, presumably he appears in it. This is about your favorite unseen character, someone who's talked about but is always offscreen -- or, in the looser interpretation, someone who's heard but whose face isn't seen.

^Don't feed the spambot.

Was Charlie ever seen in Charlie's Angels? I don't remember.

Not as such. There were a few times where we saw his arms or the back of his head or the like, but John Forsythe never showed his face in the show. (And it was probably a stand-in for those scenes, with Forsythe recording his voice separately.) And when the camera was in Charlie's location, I believe it was always while he was talking to the Angels over the speakerphone. I'm not sure we ever saw them physically in his presence.

George Steinbrenner, Seinfeld (Only ever saw him from the back.)
Stan Walker, Will & Grace
Peg's mother, Married With Children.
