Favorite Cast of Character in Star Trek?

Which series had the best cast of characters?

I'm the minority! I voted ENT. But, I've yet to see DS9. And from all the comments here, I really HAVE to make the effort to sit down and watch. Maybe once the kids start school I can commit to an episode a day..,or 2-3 a week...

It's okay!!! We have "Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations" here.

Though I do suggest you check out that series.... :vulcan:

I think it's a bit of a cheat that some DS9 voters are citing recurring guest actors as part of the cast.

I think DS9 objectively had the most good regular characters, but I have to add some caveats:
Sisko is impressive but so weird and unnatural you often find yourself thinking "What the hell is he doing?"
Bashir eventually developed, but was initially very stiff and unlikable.
Kira was very impressive at first, but now I'm acutely conscious of the actor's limitations; also, Kira's romances and all the stuff with the Kai was pretty blah, and that ended up being all she was doing.
And Jadzia and Jake were ... not great.

You left out the better ones, IE Dukat, Garak, Odo, and O'Brien.

So with you on Brooks. Not a whole lot of range there and his voice and body mannerisms ARE weird and distracting.

Jake is so bad I have to turn away from his scenes.

Jadzia improved hugely from seasons 1 and 2.

That said, it shakes out this way for me:

Voyager for regular cast
DS9 if you do include the rotating cast of semi-regulars that developed. That's what I call them, not guest stars.

I voted TOS. A fan from the beginning as an impressionable young boy, they quickly grabbed my attention and never let go. I still watch TOS, both TV and movies, and am grateful that I can carry on the illusion through all the many books that continue to be published.

That being said, the crew of DS9 was simply outstanding.

Thanks for the rundown! I had watched the first three episodes last year, but you pretty much nailed it with why I didn't stick with it.

Sisko being unnatural, and pretty unrelatable to me (but what do I know? I'm one of the minority that find Archer relatable)

Bashir was unlikeable. And I was annoyed by Kira. Jadzia and Jake didn't impress me either. Oh, and Miles and Keiko were hit and miss for me.

But again, I only watched three episodes, so I really didn't give it a fair chance. I do like character actors, and secondary characters, so I may have to give it a shot, if for no other reason than to see Jeffery Combs as Weyoun.

Despite the weirdness, Sisko will grow on you.
As I said, Bashir gets better.
Keiko is always a drag, but Miles becomes a great character. In fact, the friendship he eventually develops with Bashir is justly celebrated for its warmth and humour.

Although Kirk, Spock and McCoy will always close to my heart, I had to choose DS9 because of the larger cast being more developed throughout course of 7 seasons. I really like Sisko and made a close connection to both he and Jake. When Benjamin was deciding to start dating again, the same interaction he was having with Jake mirrored that of my father and I. My mother had passed away a couple years earlier from cancer and Dad was having second thoughts re-entering the dating world. Sisko is weird, but he's my kind of weird.

I've heard that from a few people. I def will have to watch then! Because I like "bromances"- probably even more so than many traditional (melodramatic) "romances".

1. TOS....there is not a weak character in the bunch (just talking main characters here). Even though Sulu and Uhura were way underdeveloped, I really like them both. Spock is one of my all time favorite Star Trek characters, really the only character in the Trek universe I like more than Spock is Geordi. Kirk is my #2 captain, and how can you not love Bones?

2. TNG....the crew I grew up with, takes a bit of a hit for me with Riker and Troi...easily my two least favorite characters on the show (not counting Wesley). Geordi and Data are two of my all time favorite characters, and Picard, Beverly, and Worf are all solid characters on this show. Riker and Deanna had their moments, and I dont 'hate' them, but they drag this crew underneath the Original for me.

3. VOY....I think this crew is underrated. Chakotay is my favorite character, followed closely by Tom Paris, and early season EMH. Harry Kim is underrated to me, and so is Kes. Neelix is good for a chuckle, and B'Ellana had some good lines as well. Janeway is my least favorite captain, and 7 is my least favorite character of the show, which puts them behind TOS and TNG.

4. DS9...only because its the crew Im least attached to. Sisko is my personal favorite captain, but past that I find Dax annoying, and Worf gets way over done, and this series makes me like him so much less than I did in TNG. Bashir was ok, he grew on me as the series progressed, and Odo and O'Brien are the other two solid characters in the show. Rom and Garak were fun, though I dont consider them main characters, Quark got on my nerves after a while too

5. ENT....just because I havent really gotten too into this series yet

After the first few episodes, I wasnt too keen on Sisko either, but I ended up loving the character, despite the emissary thing. Heck, now he's my favorite captain, but I dont think he came into his own until around season 3

For me:

DS9 -- the sheer craft and the immense cast went well together, with scripts playing up their strengths
TNG -- perhaps the strongest pedigree of main actors for a Trek show
TOS -- set the tone, the Big 3 + Scotty are too iconic to ignore, and that's thanks to ability. Points deducted for not really utilizing the other cast (whether Uhura, Sulu, Chekov) or even the recurring secondaries (Chapel, Rand, Kyle, etc) as well as others, especially given that the 1960s was no stranger to ensemble television (TOS wasn't intended to be as such, but the publicity photos say otherwise)
VOY -- I agree that they're underrated. Strong cast hampered by uneven writing
ENT -- a little too generic when they started out
