Favorite acting moment in Trek

1)Although not a 'moment', Shatner in movies 2, 3, and 4. With a lot of help from his 'friends', he proved that Trek could string successful movies together.

Yes. Shatner has a reputation as a hambone, and he has done his level best to earn it, but Star Trek fans know that he's capable of more. I love the moment in TMP when Kirk sees the Enterprise again in drydock; Shatner barely moves at all, but his face is so utterly stricken with sadness and yearning that you know without a word of dialogue that Kirk was utterly miserable in his years away from space.

The Inner Light. 'Nuff said. I cry everytime I watch this episode (my wife and I just got Season 5 of Next Gen. on DVD, and we're coming up to it. I'm going to need tissues for both of us, but for her especially...she's never seen it).

The scene that always breaks me down is when they're watching the probe launch, and Kamin's wife and Batai come back to explain what is going on. It's very touching when Picard realizes what's going on.

The "I love Italian... And so do you" bit in TVH always cracks me up. Shatner and Nimoy play off each other perfectly.

2.) DeForest Kelley, The Search for Spock: "That green-blooded son of a bitch! It's his revenge for all those arguments he lost!"
3.) Andy Robinson, The Wire.
4.) Harris Yulin, Duet.
5.) James Doohan, Relics, in any scene where he conveys his disappointment in how Geordi runs Engineering. Also, when faced with the spectre of the NCC-1701.
6.) Colm Meaney in the "Torture O'Brien" episodes.
7.) Rene Auberjonois, Necessary Evil.

My most favorite moment is just one line from Inner Light: "Oh...oh it's me!"

Patrick Stewart knocks that one out of the park...I just got goosebumps typing it out.

He tormented his subjects. He
drove them to anger. They cried

Picard glances at the Tamarian -- the alien's eyes are
glazed, but rapt.

fought in the temple. They fought
in the street. Gilgamesh defeated
Enkidu. They became friends.

Gilgamesh and Enkidu. At Uruk.

The alien's voice is extremely weak. As if he's just
repeating Picard's words unconsciously.

DATHON
(weak; mimicking)
At Uruk...

Picard can see that Dathon is failing. Picard's voice
becomes almost a whisper, softly making the transition
to his own way of speaking.

PICARD
(quiet)
The new friends went into the
desert, where the Great Bull of
Heaven was killing men by the
hundreds. Enkidu caught it by
the tail, Gilgamesh struck it with
his sword.

DATHON
(barely audible,
mimicking)
Gilgamesh...

PICARD
They were victorious. But Enkidu
fell to the ground. Struck down
by the gods...

The alien closes his eyes... Picard looks at him. The
Tamarian shudders once -- and is completely still.

PICARD
(continuing; a whisper)
And Gilgamesh wept bitter tears,
saying, "He who was my companion
through adventure and hardships,
is gone forever... "

 

[Nerys Ghemor]

You guys have already mentioned a LOT of wonderful moments, many of which are also my favorites.

But for me...the interaction between Tekeny Ghemor (Lawrence Pressman) and Kira Nerys (Nana Visitor) is my favorite. And the end of "Ties of Blood and Water"...I need a tissue box for that.

Also loved the scene chewing by the likes of William Windom ('The Doomsday Machine') and Morgan Woodward ('The Omega Glory').

"We killed thousands and they still came!"

Wow, that is a tough one. Many, many great moments stand out from all of the series.

A personal favorite acting moment: In "Balance of Terror" at the VERY END when Kirk consoles Angela Martine r.e the loss of Tomlinson, after he gives his comments about how it doesn't make sense, the acting that Shatner does *as he walks in the hall and the credits start to roll over him* is extremely impressive. It shows him composing himself in the eyes of the crew and pulling himself back together. It is a great bit of acting by Shatner and gives a very early insight into how Kirk views his command. He goes from visibly distraught to composed and in command in about 10 seconds. A really outstanding moment.

Second Personal Favorite: Another one I think about all the time is Harris Yulin in "Duet," in his final scene with Kira in the detention area where he confesses who he is and what he has done. Yulin just brings the house down, and shows what a real actor can accomplish with just his face and his voice. I think about "Duet" all the time. It is my favorite DS9 episode of all.

There are too many to choose from and all the best ones seem taken. So I'll go with one I watched recently.

Twilight from Enterprise's Third Season. The moment when T'Pol reveals that all of humanity has been wiped out. Archer breaks down and bursts out of the room, outside into the open air, looks skyward as we see the Ceti Alpha V refugee settlement around him.

 

[McCoy]

So many great moments already mentioned. Here's one that may not be immediately obvious:

As generally hated as Endgame is, I believe that Mulgrew's dual performance is masterful. Even if they weren't visibly different (one older than the other) you'd know which Janeway you were looking at from the very subtle differences she gave each role.

Garek dressing down Ezri while she tries to pschyoanalyze him.

Sisko "discussing" Mr Eddington with Jadzia holding the punching bag.

Seven of Nine in "The Gift" we have become small, talking about herself in the second person.

Weyoun and Odo in the shuttle going back to DS-9.

There are soooo many more...

[The Grim Ghost]

When McCoy thinks that he has blinded Spock for no reason.

The look on McCoy's face says it all. You can really feel his pain.

In "Pathfinder" when they are having a meeting with Admiral Paris and Lt Barclay tries to explain how to contact voyager, he is stuttering and stammering all through his plan. A very good acting job by Dwight Schultz

In "The Voyager Conspiracy" after Seven tries to download too much data, she comes up with this conspiracy theory. She proceeds to rattle off all these different stardates, locations, species met with, technology given away and the Caretaker situation with a Cardissian connection. Jeri, does not miss a beat, she is taking at WF 9.975 for minutes at a time. As Tuvok would say "Impressive"...

She proceeds to rattle off all these different stardates, locations, species met with, technology given away and the Caretaker situation with a Cardissian connection. Jeri, does not miss a beat, she is taking at WF 9.975 for minutes at a time. As Tuvok would say "Impressive"...

I remember that scene. The one annoyance I had was when she was pacing back and forth throughout the whole shtick. Other than that, you're right...didn't miss a beat.

Close toss-up between Patrick Stewart in "Inner Light" and Terry Farrell and Susanna Thompson's terrific scene in "Rejoined". I cry every time I watch either of those.

Although I'd blame the scriptwriters for that
