Fate/Stay Night movie (2010)

Hi.

Next year, a new adaptation of the Fate/Stay Night franchise will be released in Japan.

Unlike the anime, which was mostly based on the Fate route from the visual novel, this movie will follow the Unlimited Blade Works timeline instead.

A short trailer was shown at a convention recently, which doesn't look bad.

Anyone else looking forward to it?

The other trailer is no more, but this one is of slightly better quality anyway.

(I left the previous post too long, so I can't edit it - otherwise I would have put this information there. Apologies.)

Oh, and I probably should have mentioned this already:

Fate is set in February 2004, in a Japanese city called Fuyuki-shi (fictional, but has some elements of Kobe in it). This city has seen various Holy Grail Wars - where magi from various factions (Masters) summon Epic Spirits from different eras of human history or mythology (Servants) for a there-can-be-only-one battle for said Grail.

The Servants are generally split into seven classes. Three classes are a mainstay for each War (Saber, Archer, Lancer - the Knight Classes) while the other four have varied over time (examples are Rider, Caster, Assassin and Berserker). The Servants tend to keep their identities secret, so spoiler tags might be worth considering when discussing them.

What the Grail actually is, what powers it may grant if won, and what price may be paid in the process, are issues which remain to be solved - not just in terms of the effect that past Grail Wars have had on the city, but on what stakes the protagonists face this time around...

I read about this a while back and I am really looking forward to it. I was really pleased with how kara no kyoukai turned out so my expectations are pretty high. On top of that, you could tell you were missing out on stuff when watching the Fate/Stay tv series so im glad we are getting more content. Here's hoping that they decide to do some Tsukihime movies as well and fix up that boring mess

I'm hoping that with the PSP version of Fate/Unlimited Codes arriving on the PlayStation Store in the West soon, there might be a raised profile for this movie, relative to the series.

If/when it shows up on DVD and/or Blu-ray outside Japan, that is.

(One thing to note is that it's gonna be 90 minutes long - which might make for a tight fit story-wise, relative to the source material.)

With a decent chunk of the story already told, they can probably sacrifice some of the character introductions and dive straight into the plot. Sloppy story telling I know, but if billed as a companion film to the TV series it could work

It seems they aren't doing that - this one is apparently being treated as a straight-up re-telling of UBW.

Well, of a concise version of it, at least.

(I might hazard a guess at certain elements being more closely echoing the PS2 version of the visual novel than the PC original, perhaps.)
