Fate of the Jedi

Garm Bel Iblis

Commodore
Anyone reading these? I tried to read OUtcast then laughed at Omen, tried the Troy Denning one, CAN NOT get into these plots. I weep for the future of Star Wars EU.

Has anyone read Backlash yet? I think Aaron Allston isn't as clever and funny as he thinks he is and Troy Denning hasn't written anything good since Star by Star.

Shadows of Mindor was EXCELLENT, as was Death Troopers. What are the odds that the EU will return to "the glory days" of the Rebellion and the New Republic before the Yuzhan Vong ruined the franchise?

I dunno. Haven't really had any interest in any of that stuff since NJO poisoned the post-RotJ well for me. It wasn't until after I saw TPM that I really gave up the EU. It had that special Star Wars feel that was missing from much of the EU. The only EU stuff I stuck with was their Clone Wars stuff. For me that's where SW lives on. The EU? More like the PU. As for my opinion of Del Rey? FU! ;)

Haven't read Backlash or the Lost Tribe of the Sith ebooks yet but I have enjoyed the FotJ series so far. I've found Luke and Ben's journey with the different Force groups interesting and fun.

Also completely disagree that the Vong ruined the EU. As for the future of the EU it is still strong. If FotJ doesn't catch your fancy there are a lot of other EU projects that you can look into instead.

I've not been very interested in Fate of the Jedi...really only read the first book and have passed on the others.

I'm still waiting to get the fourth new book from the library, I'm currently re-reading #3 to refresh my memory. As I recall, 1 was intriguing, 2 was a 280 page waste of time, 3 was good. I'm really excited about where the story is going with a major unexplained mystery central to the EU books for some time. I can't wait to see where it goes!

I've read the first three. Haven't read Backlash yet. Waiting to get it from the library. I'm slowly warming to the series.

I think LOTF started out with more of a bang and watching Jacen's at first methodical turn to the dark side was chilling and compelling all at the same time, but then the second half of LOTF just went to crap.

FOTJ has started out a bit slowly. I still think making Daala Chief of State was stupid so its hampered my enjoyment of the Coruscant plots, plus each novel seems to go back to making random Jedi go crazy, usually Jedi we don't know much about and therefore don't really care much about. And none of them have wreaked enough damage. But I am intrigued by the idea of the Lost Tribe of Sith (even though I think they are a bit underpowered) and I think Abeloth has the potential to be a truly great and unique Star Wars villain. I also like the tension brewing between Kenth Hamner and some of the Jedi, though I think Kyp has been uncharacteristically mellow, just like in LOTF. So I'm holding out hope that the series will pick up the pace, the third book did that, and really conclude by adding a great chapter to the SW EU. One other thing I hope FOTJ does but I doubt it will, beyond Ben, is create a new generation of Jedi to take over the reins for subsequent book series.

After Legacy of the Force, there is no way I am reading another nine-book maxiseries.
I was waiting for them to start coming out in paperback. I'm definitely done with buying a SW book in hardcover when it should have been in paperback from the beginning--hardcover should be reserved for special event books, like Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor. But based on what I've been hearing about FotJ, I'm tempted to just skip the series completely.

It is ridiculous that all the books in the series are hardcover. I'm protesting by just getting them all from the lib for free :p

The library has the first three if I want to read the ones I passed one...I forget the explanation Del Ray had regarding the hardcover novels remember that being a big reason why I wasn't much excited about them.

^ Yet I think that they announced their plans to release the hardcovers during the financial meltdown was happening.

Starting at the end of April, and for the next three months, the first three books in this series are being reprinted as paperbacks. I would imagine the rest will follow sometime soon. I'm glad I waited to get them now.

Well of course they're going to SAY that :p ;) Woo! I just got the new book from the library last night! Woo!

I haven't read them yet since they're not on paperback yet and I usually do my reading on the go so hardcovers are rather impractical.

I'm still waiting for the paperback reprint of the Clone Wars movie novelization.

Where is it?? It's been well over a year......
